The Humanitar- ian Award was established in 1981 in memory of “Little Bill” Phillips, a localradiobroadcaster. : United Way seek nominees for award The United Way of Wyoming _ Valley recently announced that it is accepting nominations for its highest award for voluntarism - the Rose Brader Community Serv- ice Award. According to Thomas Ward, chairman of the volunteer judging committee, the award is designed to recognize an individ- ual who has provided outstanding volunteer service within the Wyo- ming Valley area. The provision of service could have been rendered to an individual, a specific cause, group, or organization and not necessarily to the United Way or its 28 member agencies. Ward stated that nomination forms can be obtained at the United Way office, 9 East Market Street, Wilkes-Barre, or by calling 829- 6711. The deadline for submitting nominations is March 18, 1989. We Claire, who works in watercolor and specializes in painting florals, has traveled extensively and draws her inspiration from her travels. She has been engaged to demon- strate and speak for art leagues and also has shown her work in Bucks County, Pennsylvania,’ in New Jersey and in Delaware. Patricia, a graduate with dis- tinction from Pennsylvania State University, has a Bachelor of Sci- ence in Art Education. She has been teaching art to children and adults in her home since 1980, and shows her work in local juried shows in both Pennsylvania and Delaware. Patricia works primar- ily in watercolors, watercolor-col- lage, and specially textured “under- painting.” Both Claire and Patricia Carlson pursue their lifelong interest in art enthusiastically and have won various awards over the past few years.
