LUNDBERG Managing Editor The Harveys Lake Council voted to appoint a representative to the Back Mountain water commis- sion last Tuesday at the council's monthly meeting. Dave Abod, a council member, was appointed as the local representative and a motion was made to designate $100 to the offi- cial formation of the committee. The committee, which is currently in ad- hoc stages, was formed for the pur- pose of bringing together represen- tatives from Back Mountain mu- nicipalities to address regional wa- ter issues. : Chairman Kehler said that the council will not be locked into any type of mandated water regula- tion through participation in the committee. The motion passed es- tablishes the borough's member- ship in the committee, but member- ship can be dropped at any time, said Kehler. In other business, problems with the Harveys Lake recycling program were discussed. The com- pany that had been providing a dumpster to the borough for recy- cling purposes is unable to continue with that service, and a statewide mandatory law recently passed has caused the value of solid waste re- cyclables todrop, according to coun- cil member Abod. Lake resident Al Morrow has donated the use of a tractor-trailer to the program . The next recycling day will be October 29. Items ac- cepted for recycling will be newspa- pers, brown cardboard, glass sepa- rated by color and aluminium cans. Harveys Lake is still in line for a state Department of Environmental Resources (DER) grant for implem- entation of a curbside pick-up pro- gram for recyclables, according to Abod. Also at the meeting, the - council heard complaints from sev- eral residents about the condition of the borough's roads. Council members responded to resident's complaints of drainage and pothole problems with the promise that potholes will be filled and roads will be oiled by the end of November. The council will advertise bids for the road oiling next week and residents will be notified when roads will be oiled.
