DENMON Staff Writer Lake-Lehman Coach Rich Gor- gone was concerned that his Black Knights might have a letdown after their upset of the Hanover Hawkeyes the opening day of the season. It appeared Gorgone might be correct in his thinking Saturday afternoon in their game with North- west when the Rangers took the ball on the opening play of the game and ran it back for a 72-yd. touchdown. Ranger quarterback Bob McCoy heaved a long pass to S. Trumbower and two minutes into the game, the Knights trailed 6-0. “We looked a little flat in the beginning,” Gorgone said. “I believe they were shocked by that first play by the Rangers. Our kids should have scored more points in the first half but they were hurt by their own mistakes until after the first several plays. “I was hoping to get some of our younger kids in the game earlier but we couldn't afford to take any chances. After we scored several times, our kids settled down and we were in front 21-6 at the half. “We have a great group of sopho- mores and juniors and after Rob Michaels and Rich James scored touchdowns, I was able to put them in the game. Early in the final pe- riod, Martin and Perry scored and Sam Gorgone made a nice kick for the extra point.” Penalties in the first half hurt the ‘Black Knights. Northwest played the Knights tough and it is always a rivalry game. Gorgone said he was happy to get the 48-6 win. The Knights have a big game this week against Bishop Hoban. The Argents have a 2-0 record. Coach Montagna’s son, Sal Montagna Jr. is their key to everything. “"He passes, runs, kicks-he can do anything. He's a fine athlete and a one-man team,”, said Gorgone. “Hanover was a great win but we have to beat Hoban to have a chance at the title. We will have to stop Montagna. Their quarterback is also doing a nice job, that's something we didn't expect. We will have to stop both of them, if we want to win,” - Gorgone said. Jackson says Dallas must play flawless football to beat Wyoming Area By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer Dallas coach Ted Jackson says his team will have to play flawless football if they want to defeat the Wyoming Warriors this Saturday. “Their quarterback Greg Dohlon isan outstanding athleteand isa lot more experienced in the game this season. Dohlon has a strong arm and can put the ball anywhere on the field,” said Jackson. “Frank Parra has 14 starters re- turning from last season and nine of them are key players. Six foot eight inch, 250 pounds Chris Wickizer is back at defensive end and six foot “They're big, tough and physical. We'll have our work cut out for us,” Jackson said. The Warriors have their entire line returning from last season. Among Coach Frank Parra’s key players are Hal Glahtz, Ron De- Luca, Tom Kearns, Tony Yudiski, Tony Mecadon, Jeff Bercak in addi- tion to Dohlon, Wickizer and Rose. Jackson and his assistants take one game at a time and will work this week at ways to stop the Warri- ors. His Mountaineers are anxious to repeat or better last year's East- ern Conference Division B champi- ons. Game time is Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Mountaineers stadium, Dallas. one 225 pounds Harry Rose is at fullback. - “We will have to work at stopping them if we expect to win. Their rec- ord for last season is behind them and this year is a whole different ball game.” The Warriors are coming into Saturday's game with the Moun- taineers with a 1-1 record having - defeated Meyers in their opening game, then losing to the Tunkhan- nock Tigers last Friday night. Jackson said it's difficult to as- sess the Warriors since it’s so early in the season but in his opinion they are the best in the Conference.
