MIKE ANNETTA recently fin- ished first in the biology portion of the JETS Test. Congratulations to Michael’ and Mrs. Kopcho his teacher who were both elated. -0- THE PIASIA STATE CONFER- ENCE was held over the weekend and several industrial arts students from Lehman came home with honors. Our club finished first in mass production and had member Don Buzinkai elected Sergeant at Arms. The team of Earl Weidner, Buzinkai and Ron Cross finished first in the Industrial Bowl Competi- tion. Weidner was also honored with a 3rd in photography. Other winners included, Rusty Lansberry, wit ha 2nd in graphic arts, Donna Skull with a 3rd in graphic arts, and Todd Krupa and Mark Stash with a 2nd and 3rd respectively in drawing interpreta- tion. Y0- STUDENT COUNCIL would like to thank everyone for supporting the Lyp II Contest. After graduation, Norm will join the Army. -0- DUANE LONG is the son of Sarah and Ron J. Long of Lehman. His hobbies include hunting, baseball, football and basketball. He plans to work after graduation. -0- MIKE MCCABE is the son of Ed McCabe of Harveys Lake. Mike enjoys hunting, crusing around, fishing and he was a member of the Ski Club. STUDENTS FROM SIXTH, SEV- ENTH AND EIGHTH GRADES have entered the Mother’s Day Poetry Contest sponsored by The Times Leader. Donna Greger enjoyed themselves so much that they have decided to reciprocate by having a dance on May 31 and inviting students from St. Leo’s as guests. Ron Reino will be on stage as Disc Jockey for the evening. It should be a pleasurable evening. FIRST GRADE STUDENTS enjoyed a field trip Friday at North- west High School sponsored by the juniors and seniors of that school. They were very excited about going in the bus, taking their lunch and just enjoying nature. The PTG spon- sors all the field trips at Gate of Heaven. We are very grateful to them for this. -0- SIXTH, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS will be attend- ing O’Reilly Bazaar on Friday, May 3. This year there will be an open- air Mass for First Friday and the students are invited to attend. 0: THE EIGHTH GRADE STU- DENTS are preparing some enter- tainment to culminate their eight years at Gate of Heaven School. This program will take place at the PTG’s last meeting of the year. TEACHER OF THE WEEK: Mr. Simon is the sixth-grade teacher and enjoys teaching Math. He matriculated at Bloomsburg Univer- sity with a major in history and a minor in math. His other interests are basketball, baseball, softball, fishing and football. He enjoys coaching and intends to coach the Gators this coming school year. JOAN SEGRAVE-DALY, eighth grade student, was selected to be in the Scripps-Howard National Spell- ing Bee. The regional competition, held at Luzerne County Community College, and the WBRE-TV station took place on Saturday morning, April 27. Brownies visit PSU kneeling, Dawn KAYO FUJIWARA is an exchange student from Iwate, Japan. She comes to us through the Rotary Club. Kayo is presently stay- ing with Mr. and Mrs. Farinola of Mountain View, Dallas. Kayo has previously stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Hall of Dallas an the Bairds of Trucksville. On Aug. 1, Kay will be returning to Japan to complete her high school education which will termi- nate in March. After completing high school Kayo plans to attend a trade school to study design or carving for two years. Dallas has enjoyed having Kayo “attend our school and we wish her luck in the future. -0- BILLY SWANN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stetson of Dallas. Billy is the treasurer of the senior class and a member of the Key Club. He is also an employee at Franklin’s Res- taurant. In his spare time Billy stories. Katie is interested in music and has played the guitar for two years and the piano for six years.
