Mrs. Bernard Banks, membership chairman, conducted the candlelight ceremony by reading the objectives of the club. As Mrs. Banks welcomed each new member, she presented her with a yellow carnation trimmed in royal blue ribbons. Nineteen club members attended the initiation ceremonies. Scouts take tour Junior Girl Scout Troop 633 of Shavertown, in conjunction with Mercy Hospital’s Wellness Center, recently completed two requirements towards their ‘‘Personal Health’’ badge. Mary Grigas of the Wellness Center gave the Scouts a tour of several departments of the hospital, where they had their blood pressure, temperature and pulse taken; and Patty Stuchel, physical therapist, spoke on good posture and gave the girls a tour of the physical therapy department, explaining how it helps people regain use of damaged body parts. A cake sent in by Joan Conrad helped the girls celebrate the birthday of Girl Scout founder Juliette Lowe. Costumes were judged by Beth Morgan, Kathy Aston and Janice Russell. Winners were: Scariest, Kelly Komsisky; pretti- est, April Masters; funniest, Diane Alters; most original, Gina Traver; and honorable mention, Lisa Gunn. Each girl also decorated a pump- kin. Winners were: First place, Kelly and Karen Komsisky; second place, Kelly Spencer; third place, Kristy Mas- calis. All other girls received an honorable mention. Newcomers The Newcomers’ Club of Wyo- ming Valley will hold its annual Abilities Auction on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Dorranceton Methodist Church on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston. The doors will open at 7 p.m. with the auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will be door prizes and a raffle for a handmade cnad- lewicked Christmas tree skirt. The public is cordially invited to attend and complimentary refreshments will be served. Proceeds will be used to fund the club’s charitable activities throughout the year. An exciting calendar of events has been planned for November and December. On November 10, a wine tasting party will be held at the home of Jim and Kathy Greger. Mothers and children can share time on November 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the General Member Coffee and on November 29 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Pot Luck Luncheon. Both events are held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shav- ertown. On November 14, at 7:30 p.m., ice cream cone Christmas at JIMMY'S CLEANERS ornaments will be made at the home of Susan Healey and on November 27 a work night will be held at the home of Jan Anderson to benefit the ladies at Maple Hill Nursing Home. A progressive dinner is set for December 1, and the Children’s Christmas Party wil be held on December 6.
