JULE AYERS Meadows dedicated in honor of Dr. Jule Ayers Ecumenical Enterprises, Inc., has announced that the Meadows Nurs- ing Center, 55 West Center Hill Road, in Dallas, was formally dedi- cated on May 30 in honor of Dr. Jule Ayers, former pastor of the First Barre and the major catalyst in the formation of EEI. ~ The Meadows Nursing Center, which is part of the larger 15 acres Meadows Geriatric Campus, is a 120 bed facility for skilled nursing care that was officially opened on Aug. 31, 1983. According to Attorney Lubin, the dedication of the Center to Dr. Ayers was proclaimed by EEI’s of his initiation of the organization, but also because of his leadership in promoting the development of the Nursing Center itself. The dedication ceremony was con- ducted in the Community Room of apartment structure for the elderly and handicapped located directly adjacent to the Nursing Center. Principals for the ceremony were Atty. Lubin; Dr. Ellis W. Roberts, Monsignor Donald A. McAndrews, EEI Trea- surer; Reverend Lynn H. Rothrock, EEI Board Member and Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Shaver- town; and Reverend Wayne A. Heintzelman, EEI Board Member and Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran also featured remarks by the hono- ree-Dr. Ayers. Dr. Ayers has served as Board Chairman of EEI since its incorpo- Board of Directors, “Dr. Ayers was principal leader in the formation of EEI,’’ which is sponsored jointly by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre, the Metropol- itan Lutheran Council of Wyoming Valley, and Dr. Ayers’ former pas- torate, the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre. In the 16 years of Dr. Ayers’ to a point where it employs more than 150 people and operates five major developments. In addition to the Meadows Nursing Center and Apartments, the non-profit corpora- tion also owns and manages the Interfaith Heights Apartments in Wilkes-Barre (215 unit of family housing), the Midtowne Apartments in Wyoming (54 units of elderly and handicapped housing), and the newest venture opened in March of this year, the Garden Village Apart- ments in West Pitstton (100 units of elderly and handicapped housing). EEI presently has applications for additional housing projects pending with the Federal government for the Boroughs of Dupont in Luzerne County and Northumberland in Nor- thumberland County. In noting Dr. Ayers’ service in EEI and the community, the plaque which will be permanently enshrined in the lobby of the Nurs- ing Center reads, in part: “The vigorous leadership and compassionate concern of Dr. Ayers enabled E.E.I. to create shelter for the ill-housed and nursing care for the aged and infirm.
