honor of Dr. Jule Ayers
Ecumenical Enterprises, Inc., has
announced that the Meadows Nurs-
ing Center, 55 West Center Hill
Road, in Dallas, was formally dedi-
cated on May 30 in honor of Dr. Jule
Ayers, former pastor of the First
Barre and the major catalyst in the
formation of EEI.
~ The Meadows Nursing Center,
which is part of the larger 15 acres
Meadows Geriatric Campus, is a 120
bed facility for skilled nursing care
that was officially opened on Aug.
31, 1983.
According to Attorney Lubin, the
dedication of the Center to Dr.
Ayers was proclaimed by EEI’s
of his initiation of the organization,
but also because of his leadership in
promoting the development of the
Nursing Center itself.
The dedication ceremony was con-
ducted in the Community Room of
apartment structure for the elderly
and handicapped located directly
adjacent to the Nursing Center.
Principals for the ceremony were
Atty. Lubin; Dr. Ellis W. Roberts,
Monsignor
Donald A. McAndrews, EEI Trea-
surer; Reverend Lynn H. Rothrock,
EEI Board Member and Pastor of
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Shaver-
town; and Reverend Wayne A.
Heintzelman, EEI Board Member
and Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran
also featured remarks by the hono-
ree-Dr. Ayers.
Dr. Ayers has served as Board
Chairman of EEI since its incorpo-
Board of Directors, “Dr. Ayers was
principal leader in the formation of
EEI,’’ which is sponsored jointly by
the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Scranton, the Jewish Federation of
Greater Wilkes-Barre, the Metropol-
itan Lutheran Council of Wyoming
Valley, and Dr. Ayers’ former pas-
torate, the First Presbyterian
Church of Wilkes-Barre.
In the 16 years of Dr. Ayers’

than 150 people and operates five
major developments. In addition to
the Meadows Nursing Center and
Apartments, the non-profit corpora-
tion also owns and manages the
Interfaith Heights Apartments in
Wilkes-Barre (215 unit of family
housing), the Midtowne Apartments
in Wyoming (54 units of elderly and
handicapped housing), and the
newest venture opened in March of
this year, the Garden Village Apart-
ments in West Pitstton (100 units of
elderly and handicapped housing).
EEI presently has applications for
additional housing projects pending
with the Federal government for the
Boroughs of Dupont in Luzerne
County and Northumberland in Nor-
thumberland County.
In noting Dr. Ayers’ service in
EEI and the community, the plaque
which will be permanently
enshrined in the lobby of the Nurs-
ing Center reads, in part:
“The vigorous leadership and
compassionate concern of Dr. Ayers
enabled E.E.I. to create shelter for
the ill-housed and nursing care for
the aged and infirm.
This dedication commemorates
the forceful leadership of Dr. Ayers
in E.E.I. and his distinguished
career in the ministry, a life
devoted to serving all people
regardless of race, status or creed.
‘‘His . commitment to justice,
mercy and reconciliation, and his
dedication to improve the total qual-
ity of our lives continues to be an
inspiration to all of us in Northeast-
ern Pennsylvania.”
