Harveys Lake Building Burns . An unoccupied building that once served as a switch- ing depot for a trolley line between Wilkes-Barre and Harveys Lake was damaged by fire on July 16. The building had been vacant for some time but had recently been leased by the Dale Sutton family from Lehman. The Suttons had moved most of their personal belongings into the house, but had decided the previous week not to move into the house when they found the well was dry. The family’s belongings, which were destroyed in the blaze, were uninsured. ®, penvisors Discuss Sludge Jackson Township supervisors will have the final say concerning sludge disposal in the township. At a meeting of the township planning commission on July 18, action was delayed on zoning amendments since the commission can only make recommendations to the supervisors concerning the problem. A Pennsylvania State University community housing and planning specialist reported that a township may regulate sludge disposal but to do away with it would be unconstitutional. Township residents are concerned with possible health hazards. Corrine Pawling Injured in Fall Corrine Pawling, 41, of Demunds Road, Dallas, was injured July 20 when struck by a falling rock on the banks of the Snake River in Idaho. Mrs. Pawling, her husband, Shep, and their three children where white-water rafting on the river when Mr. and Mrs. Pawling took a short break and climbed ashore. While walking under a cliff, Mrs. Pawling was struck on the back of the skull by a large rock. Shopping Center Argued Judge Bernard Brominski will receive police traffic statistics from an attorney for the Dallas township zoning board concerning: the township’s argument against a shopping plaza proposed for Route 309. The Township Board of Supervisors will attempt to prove the shopping plaza would pose a danger to motorists. The plaza, proposed by John Bauer, owner of Treat Drive-In on Route 309, would include eight stores located adjacent to the drive-in. Boback Named Councilman Bernard J. “Buzz” Boback, of Pole 204, Harveys Lake, has been selected to fill a seat on the Harveys Lake Borough Council, left vacant by Gifford Cappellini Jr., who is moving to Dallas this month. continuing as a member of the Harveys Lake Council for the remaining five and one-half months of his term, however, the law reads that a council member must be a registered voter in the borough in which he serves. The appointment of Boback was made during a ‘‘closed door’ session held July 23 by the Harveys Lake Borough Council members. Boback, a Republican, is employed as sales manager at WBAX Radio. A newcomer to politica, he is a member of the Harveys Lake Protective Association, the Harveys Lake Planning Commission, Dallas Rotary, George M. Davis Lodge, Caldwell Consistory and Irem Temple.
