PAGE SIXTEEN Noxen Notes Candidates for municipal and county offices in Noxen and Monroe Townships and Wyoming County offices were busy last week and over the weekend getting signatures to nomination petitions for the various offices to be balloted in the May 17 primary. In an unusual develop- ment, ‘the Wyoming County board of elections, composed of the county’s three commissioners, voided the petition filed by Democrat Charles A. Winner of Noxen, who had been seeking the Democrat nomination for Noxen Twp. supervisor. It was determined that names on Winner’s petition had been obtained before the legal Feb. 15 circulation date. Winner could not be reached by phone to ascertain if he attempted to secure signatures for’ a new petition. Deadline for filing petitions was yesterday (March 8). In other primary . election matters, Lewis R. Whipple of Monroe Twp. filed nominating papers for the Republican nomination of supervisor in that municipality, which includes the Beaumont, Evans Falls and Bowmans Creek areas. Whipple will seek the seat now held by James Sickler of Beaumont, chairman of the board of supervisors in Monroe Twp. Robert Z. Belles of Beaumont has filed nominating papers for a full term as auditor in Monroe Twp. He is presently serving on the township board of auditors, having been appointed last year to fill a vacancy on the board as a result of a resignation. In Noxen Twp, Warren B. Montross had filed a petition for the Republic nomination as township constable. those were the primary election developments in the Monroe-Noxen Township areas up to press-time Thursday afternoon. Deadline for filing was yesterday afternoon and the com- plete list of candidates for both GOP and Democrat nominations for township offices will appear in next week's issue. The Ecumenical midweek Lenten service will be held tomorrow evening at 7:30 in Noxen United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Bsaker, pastor of the Evans Falls Free Methodist Church, in charge. The service is sponsored by Noxen UM Church, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Noxen and the Free Methodist Church at Evans Falls. The public is invited to attend. Classmates Class of Noxen United Methodist Church is completing plans for a gala ‘St. Patrick’s Evening’ to be held Friday evening, March 18, in the church fellowship rooms. The annual World Day of Prayer service, sponsored by the area women’s groups, was held Friday afternoon in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Jacob Victor, pastor of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, was the speaker. Refreshments followed the service. United Methodist Women of Noxen UM Church are completing plans for a rummage sale to be held Saturday, March 26. Plans are underway for the Easter musical program to be presented on Sunday, March 27, in Noxen Independent Bible Church. Nancy Keiper is the director. March is “Food Drive Month” for members of Noxen Independent Bible Church. A table has been set up for food donations. At the end of the month, Easter baskets will be made up of the food items, tracts, Christian reading and other items to be delivered to help those going through hard times. Linda Searfoss is chairing the program. On Sunday evening, March 20, a film, “30 stripes,” will be shown following a light supper in the church hall, Arnie Williams is a patient in the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
