Noxen Notes
Candidates for
municipal and county
offices in Noxen and
Monroe Townships and
Wyoming County offices
were busy last week and
over the weekend getting
signatures to nomination
petitions for the various
offices to be balloted in
the May 17 primary.
In an unusual develop-
ment, ‘the Wyoming
County board of elections,
composed of the county’s
three commissioners,
voided the petition filed
by Democrat Charles A.
Winner of Noxen, who had
been seeking the
Democrat nomination for
Noxen Twp. supervisor. It
was determined that
names on Winner’s
petition had been obtained
before the legal Feb. 15
circulation date. Winner
could not be reached by
phone to ascertain if he
attempted to secure
signatures for’ a new
petition. Deadline for
filing petitions was
yesterday (March 8).
In other primary
. election matters, Lewis
R. Whipple of Monroe
Twp. filed nominating
papers for the Republican
nomination of supervisor
in that municipality,
which includes the
Beaumont, Evans Falls
and Bowmans Creek
areas. Whipple will seek
the seat now held by
James Sickler of
Beaumont, chairman of
the board of supervisors
in Monroe Twp.
Robert Z. Belles of
Beaumont has filed
nominating papers for a
full term as auditor in
Monroe Twp. He is
presently serving on the
township board of
auditors, having been
appointed last year to fill
a vacancy on the board as
a result of a resignation.
In Noxen Twp, Warren
B. Montross had filed a
petition for the Republic
nomination as township
constable.
those were the primary
election developments in
the Monroe-Noxen
Township areas up to
press-time Thursday
afternoon. Deadline for
filing was yesterday
afternoon and the com-
plete list of candidates for
both GOP and Democrat
nominations for township
offices will appear in next
week's issue.
