PAGE THIRTEEN Dallas golfers win THE DALLAS POST, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1980 * “Enthusiasm” could well be Robyn Jones middle name--for en- thusiasm radiates when Ms. Jones, newly- appointed Dallas High School girls field hockey coach, begins talking about her team. In fact, _ she radiates enthusiasm ) whenever she talks about girls sports. “Young, attractive and a great athlete, Robyn is a staunch advocate of women’s sports programs. While still a student in public school she knew ‘athletics was her future and there was no. doubt in her mind about her future. The only daughter (only child) of Mr. and Mrs. William Jones of Wilkes- Barre, Robyn graduated from Meyers High School where she was a member of<the girls varsity field hockey team and the girls track team. She was captain of the high school field hockey team and was a member of the track team when girls track was just organized. “Following graduation from high school, Robyn attended East Strouds- burg State College where she received her B.S. degree in health and receiving her degree, she accepted a position as woman's program director at the Wilkes- Barre Y.M.C.A. and also coached Coughlin High School’s field hockey team. The following year she taught as a substitute at Coughlin High School and coached the hockey team for the second year. "Last year she sub- stituted at Dallas and in the spring Robyn coached the girls track team. The team finished the season with a 5-5 record. This year she anticipates that the track team will do even better than last year. “Following Mabel Jenkins retirement as field hockey coach, Robyn accepted the position. She dlso is a long term sub- stitute at Dallas. While at Coughlin as c¢oach, the hockey team finished the 1979 season with a 6-3 record-and- also copped the city schools championship. She also had two of the team’s members place on the All- Scholastic team of the Wyoming Valley Con- ference and Sherry Monseur, center forward, was the league’s leading scorer with 11 goals. Robyn is enthusiastic about this year’s Dallas High School team and is very pleased with the girls showing in three pre- season scrimmages. Her enthusiasm for field hockey carries over into her personal life. Robyn plays on a team in an Adult League of the Wyoming Valley Recrea- tion Board. Some of the players on the team are from the Back Mountain. The team plays all of the local colleges and travels throughout Pennsylvania to play various colleges. In her leisure time, Robyn’s favorite recreation is downhill skiing, usually at Elk Mountain or Camelback. She learned to ski at Camelback while she was in college. She has played the guitar since she was in sixth grade and finds it a Over thirty 4-H leaders attended the Northeast Regional 4-H Leaders’ Forum on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Master Host Inn, Wilkes-Barre. Dr. Maurice Kramer, State 4-H program director, delivered the keynote speech, ‘“Penn- sylvania 4-H--Moving Up.” His address focused on motivational techniques for youth. A session was also led by John Carr, Lackawanna County Extension Agent, on “Meeting Management.” Emphasis was on working with speakers and run- ning meetings for ef- fectiveness. Following lunch, participants had an op- portunity to attend two of four workshops. Robyn is a member of the Wilkes-Barre YMCA, where she has met many residents of the Back Mountain. She bowls during the winter in a Tuesday night league at Stanton Lane and in the spring she plays softball. She plays in Thursday Night's Slo-Pitch Woman’s Rec Board League, a very com- petitive league. Robyn has many college friends in teaching positions throughout the world. She loves to travel and is attracted to tropical climates. She has visited the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and this year plans to go to Granada. She likes the Back Mountain area and believes there are many opportunities in this area. Robyn asks the Back Mountain fans to share in her enthusiasm and come out to support the girls sports programs. “The girls are doing a great job,” said Robyn “But they need the community support. Piotroski, Pearl Robyn Jones Eight of the 12 golfers Dallas Senior High School sent to the Pre-District 2 Qualifying Round, Tuesday afternoon, at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf course qualified for the District 2 Tournament Dallas High School golf team defeated Hanover Area, 14-7, Friday af- ternoon to hold the lead in the Wyoming Valley Conference with a 6-0 record. Jeff Balmer was medalist with five over par for 13 holes. Balmer took four points. Joe Kaminski won three points, Sean Havey won 2%» points, Cameron Spivey took two, Dave Aicher 1%; and Jim Smith won one. The top 28 men will go back Oct. 1 for the District 2 tournament.
