THE DALLAS POST, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1980
* “Enthusiasm” could
well be Robyn Jones
middle name--for en-
thusiasm radiates when
Ms. Jones, newly-
appointed Dallas High
School girls field hockey
coach, begins talking
about her team. In fact,
_ she radiates enthusiasm
) whenever she talks about
girls sports.
“Young, attractive and a
great athlete, Robyn is a
staunch advocate of
women’s sports
programs. While still a
student in public school
she knew ‘athletics was
her future and there was
no. doubt in her mind
about her future.
The only daughter (only
child) of Mr. and Mrs.
William Jones of Wilkes-
Barre, Robyn graduated
from Meyers High School
where she was a member
of<the girls varsity field
hockey team and the girls
track team.
She was captain of the
high school field hockey
team and was a member
of the track team when
girls track was just
organized.
“Following graduation
from high school, Robyn
attended East Strouds-
burg State College where
she received her B.S.
degree in health and
receiving her degree, she
accepted a position as
woman's program
director at the Wilkes-
Barre Y.M.C.A. and also
coached Coughlin High
School’s field hockey
team.
The following year she
taught as a substitute at
Coughlin High School and
coached the hockey team
for the second year.
"Last year she sub-
stituted at Dallas and in
the spring Robyn coached
the girls track team. The
team finished the season
with a 5-5 record. This
year she anticipates that
the track team will do
even better than last year.
“Following Mabel
Jenkins retirement as
field hockey coach, Robyn
accepted the position. She
dlso is a long term sub-
stitute at Dallas.
While at Coughlin as
c¢oach, the hockey team
finished the 1979 season
with a 6-3 record-and- also
copped the city schools
championship. She also
had two of the team’s
members place on the All-
Scholastic team of the
Wyoming Valley Con-
ference and Sherry
Monseur, center forward,
was the league’s leading
scorer with 11 goals.
Robyn is enthusiastic
about this year’s Dallas
High School team and is
very pleased with the
girls showing in three pre-
season scrimmages.
Her enthusiasm for
field hockey carries over
into her personal life.
Robyn plays on a team in
an Adult League of the
Wyoming Valley Recrea-
tion Board. Some of the
players on the team are
from the Back Mountain.
The team plays all of
the local colleges and
travels throughout
Pennsylvania to play
various colleges.
In her leisure time,
Robyn’s favorite
recreation is downhill
skiing, usually at Elk
Mountain or Camelback.
She learned to ski at
Camelback while she was
in college.
She has played the
guitar since she was in
sixth grade and finds it a

the Wilkes-Barre YMCA,
where she has met many

during the winter in a
Tuesday night league at
Stanton Lane and in the

She plays in Thursday
Night's Slo-Pitch

plans to go to Granada.
She likes the Back
Mountain area and
believes there are many
opportunities in this area.
Robyn asks the Back
Mountain fans to share in
her enthusiasm and come
out to support the girls
sports programs.
“The girls are doing a
great job,” said Robyn
“But they need the
community support. Let
them know Dallas fans
care about their girls.”
