Lee Ann Curtis, a senior at Dallas High School, finds living in the Back Mountain very pleasant. Moving to our area when she was in fifth grade, Lee Ann previously lived in Lee Ann resides with her mother, Virginia, and her brothers David and Wade in New Goss Manor. An outstanding quarterback on the senior high school varsity team, Jim is considered one of the best in the Wyoming Valley Football Conference. According to Jim, it takes more than in- dividual effort to be considered one of the best. He believes that it took team effort and an en- couraging coach to get him where he is. This season, Jim also is con- sidered one of the best field goal kickers in the league, not missing one to date. Baseball and basketball are also favorite sports of Jim’s. Beginning his baseball experience in little league, Jim has played baseball for the past four years. During his sophomore year, Jim was named to the all- scholastic team. During junior high school Jim played on the basketball team, an interest he hopes to renew. this year. Jim is a member of Lake- Lehman’s Varsity Club. The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Michaels, Jim lives with his family on Pine Street in Dallas. Jim has two brothers, Allen and Robbie and one sister Susan. Allen, who is 13, is on the basketball team at Lake-Lehman Junior Treacher’s in Dallas. An academic student, Lee Ann hopes to attend Shippensburg State College for three years before obtaining certifi- cation at King’s College as a physicians assistant. Lee Ann finds the teachers at Dallas to be very interested in their students as individuals. she feels that Dallas students have a closeness that is not possible in larger schools. Lake-Noxen PTA conducts drive The week of October 22 thru the 26 is the Lake- Noxen Pta membership drive. The slogan chosen for this years drive is “Who’s the Key to Our Success? You Are!’’. This was chosen to emphasize that without the participation of parents and teachers PTA can’t be the productive organization, members would like it to be. The class with the highest percentage of parents joining will be treated to a party. High School. Susan, a freshman, is a member of the band. Robbie is a third grade student at Lehman- Jackson Elementary School. Robbie: likes to play baseball and is a member of the little league. With school work and sports participation, Jim’s spare time is limited. When he can, Jim enjoys working on cars, especially helping his uncle restore an old Jaguar. .Since Jim’s dad’s job requires him to travel, the Michael's family sometimes accompanies family vacationed in Florida. Last summer they visited New. York City where the family took in a Mets-Phillies Baseball game. A college prep student Jim wants to major in business management in college. Although he is undecided on a definite choice, Jim thinks Boston College would be to his liking. Dallas High in View by Alice Baloga The new Parent-Student Teacher Association had its first meeting this year on Oct. 18. Everyone involved regarded this first meeting a success. The meeting in- cluded a preview of the Dallas’ Chorus. These talented people deserve the highest praise for their wonderful program. As in previous years, the student council, in cooperation with the Junior class, is again sponsoring a Halloween dance set for Oct. 31. The band is Vengeance, a blue grass-rock group. Support the student council and have a great time on that haunted night. Costumes are preferred but not'required. The time is 8 to 11 p.m. ~ Both crews and cast are working very hard to present Thorton Wilder’s The Match Maker, to be performed Nov. 16 and 17. It promises to be an enjoyable evening for all. The date is in February and every- one involved can’t wait to go! : Much to the students’ pleasure, Dallas had a four-day week last-week. Friday was a teachers’ in-service, so for once the students enjoyed the thought of their teachers working in class! ? One of Dallas’ new teachers is Mrs. Riggins in home economics. Mrs. Riggins had taught for nine years before she came to Dallas; six years in West Chester and three years for the Luzerne Intermediate Unit. Besides her teaching responsibilities, she loves to keep active. Currently,she is the chairperson of the Citizens’ Advisory Council at Lake-Lehman School District. At Dallas she is the new advisor to the student council. Mrs. Riggins is married, has three boys and lives in Chase. She enjoys her family very much along with her farm and animals. Swimming and gardening are some of her favorite Riggins to Dallas and thank her for her important contri- butions to our school programs. In sports this week, the girls hockey team is now 2-2. The football team played a difficult game against Pitt- ston Saturday. Cross-Country is practicing very hard for districts on Oct. 26. The golf team had their districts Oct. 17 and 18 at Hershey and did an excellent job. Nov. 1 starts basketball season!
