TE r— Twenty of the best softball teams from A Wyoming Valley, the Back Mountain and Wyoming County are entered in the Noxen Rebels 1979 Fall Slo-Pitch Softball tourney. Included are Cook’s Owls i of Lehman, 1979 Back 1 Mountain Slo-Pitch x Softball League cham- q pions; the Hilltop Inn, i American Division winners, and the Noxen Rebels. Other Back Mountain teams include Villa Roma, Pizza Bar, Villa Roma, Mr. Donut and Columbia Porch Shades. Some new entries . in- clude E.J.’s of Tunkhannock, Pickett’s Charge, County Seat Motel from Montrose, Procter and Gamble, Brown’s Oil of Beaumont, Bob’s Bar, Rickett’s Hotel and Gina’s. Also entered are Joe's of Wilkes-Barre, Noxen Sportsmen, Leo’s of Wilkes-Barre and the Whips. West Wyoming Company, always a formidable opponent, also is entered in the tourney. The tourney will get underway Saturday morning on the Noxen diamond with games starting at 8 a.m. and continuing on the hour throughout the day. The tourney will be of the double elimination type with winners declared in both the winner’s and loser’s brackets. More than $500 in prize money and trophies will be awarded to the first three finishers in the winner’s division, with the top team receiving a cash award in addition to a beautiful trophy. Teams finishing in the runnerup yesterday announced the following schedule of games for the opening round of games on Saturday with tourney games also slated for Sunday and also on the following weekend-Se- ptember 22-23. Saturday’s opening and third places also will receive trophies. A new addition to the awards this year will be the presentation of trophies to players judged most valuable on defense and offense. Saturday’s afternoon’s schedule of six games will begin with Hilltop Inn. playing Joe’s of Wilkes- Barre at 1; Ricketts Hotel will play Bob’s Bar at 2; Brown’s Oil of Beaumont will play the winner of the 9 O’clock game at 3; West Wyoming Hose Company will play the winner of the 10 o'clock game at 4; Gina’s will play Cook’s Owls at 5, and the Whips will play the Rebels at 6. The Corvairs picked up four points from the Skylarks by forfeit when only one man showed up for the losing team. Busch Leaguers shut ® out the Glen’s Hookers in Our Gang League and the Brunswick Go-Fors copped three from the High Rollers. The Pin Splitters shut out the Tough Luck five and the Tigers blanked the Challengers. Vic's Girls dropped all to Mission Impossible. The first week Pin Splitters took all from the High Rollers. Betty S. hit 170 for Vic's and Michele L. was high for the losing five with 196 (500). Mission Impossible took four from the Tigers paced by L. Coolbaugh’s 213 (599). G.
