Rick Garfield is preparing for a new trial in the prosecution of 29-year- old Solomon Webb of Fort Lauder- dale, charged with the Feb. 5 killing of John Krasner, former Harveys Lake adult bookstore operator. Webb is alleged to have shot the owner of ponography stores in several states while Krasner was parking his car near a motel. Webb's estranged wife, Debra Ann, told police that her husband came to her home about midnight the night of the killing and said that he had accidently shot a man. She also pro- vided police with a lead on Webb. The following evening, police apprehended Webb walking along the street near his home. Later Webb reportedly confessed to the shooting and was charged with the killing of Krasner. Webb was brought to trial during the week of July 28 but the prosecution’s principal witness, Webb’s wife, failed to appear. The jury could not come to a decision and Webb was returned to Broward County prison where he awaits a new trial. No date has been set for the new trial. In the meantime, Webb’s wife showed up in the courtroom after the jury announced that it was deadlocked. She told the presiding judge, Eugene Garrett, that she had no transportation and had no one to take care of her child. Judge Garrett, angered by her flimsy alibi, handed down a decision of $500 fine or six months in jail. Since Mrs. Webb could not pay the fine, she is serving the six month sentence. : The Webb child is being cared for by Webb’s parents. may consider Seekar again Harveys Lake Borough is con- sidering a $10,900 contract garbage collecting bid by Seekar Enter- prises. The borough is presently served on a contract basis by Galka and Bean Sanitation Services, a Noxen firm, which 'has been collecting garbage since January of this year. However, its contract contains provisions for the borough to ter- minate its services on 45-day notice effective six months after starting work. Seekar is owned by former Harveys Lake resident Richard Tattersall and formerly collected garbage in the borough. Borough council president Robert DeRemer said this week that the borough advertised for new bids early this year and that Seekar’s is the only one yet received. The Seekar bid, he continued, has been turned over the the council's sanitation committee, consisting of Guy Giordano and’Andrew Morgus, for study. He said that the borough would cancel Galka and Bean and consider another firm if it could save money by doing so. The request for additional bids was intended to provide possible money-saving alternatives to Galka and Bean for the borough, he added. Galka and Bean’s 18-month contract expires next June, and the borough will again request new bids before that time. 8 a The Luzerne County Fall Fair began Wednesday and runs through Sunday this week at the Lehman Horse Show Grounds, Rte. 118, Leh- man, Pa.
