Parks recently attended “Morgan Horse Week”, held in Detroit, Mich., in conjunction with the First Grand National Morgan Horse Show. Dr. Parks was made ‘Morgan Horse Man of the Year” at a banquet which preceded the show. The honor was bestowed because of his interest and contributions to Morgan horse breeding, par- ticularly his chairmanship for the past three years, of the com- mittee which developed the standards for judging Morgan horses. Dr. and Mrs. Parks moved to the Noxen area two years ago but have been breed- ing Morgan horses for many years. The Rev. Energy Crisis Program Set in Dallas, Nov. 19 Josephine Kotch, associate extension home economist, will present an educational program on the energy crisis and the role consumers should play. Two programs will be held for all county residents, one, Nov. 15 at 8:30 p.m. at Harding Fire Co. Rt. 92 North, and another Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gate of Heaven School, Dallas. The information presented will include a slide presentation on the physical factors which establish the basic energy re- quirement, the breakdown of energy consumption in the home, various heating systems, insulation and U.S. population vs. use of world energy output. The presentation will give a practical approach to energy conservation in the home. Mrs. Kotch will be assisted by Diane Lukawitz, a consumer advisor for P.P. & L. A question and answer period will follow. Handouts on saving heat will also be available. The program is sponsored by the Luzerne County Cooperative Extension Service and Penn State Univer- sity. Volunteers Snuff Burning Mattress The Dallas Volunteer Fire Company responded to an alarm at about 9a.m., Nov. 6, at the intersection of Norton Street and Huntsville Road in Dallas Borough. There was a mat- tress fire in the home of Walter R. Chappel, 57 Huntsville Road. The fire was extinguished quickly without great financial loss to the homeowner.
