Earlier in the week, the Crestwood Comets had defeated the Knights 68-48 in a contest played at Lake-Lehman Tuesday night. Meskers, who has been hitting the basket consistently this season, paced his team to their victory and made good a total of 20 throws from the field and from the free line had five out of Six. In the Dallas-Crestwood game on Friday night Steve Meskers continued to hit the net for 23 points but the Comets had Dallas in trouble in the final period with only seconds to play and the score tied at 52 even. Meskers’ shot with only seconds to go broke the tie and gave the Mountaineers the game 54-52. Comets led at the end of the first quarter 10-8 but the Mountaineers rallied in the second period to 20 to their opponents 10 to end the half 28- 20. They outscored the Comets 16-14 in the third period but ran into difficulty when Crestwood rolled up 18 points against the Mounts’ 10 in the final period. Other Mounts in the double numbers column were Pat Delaney with five court goals and three good ones from the free line for 18 and G. Arcuri who made good four from the field and two free throws, for 10. . Season Begins The College Misericordia girls’ basketball team will open its season next Tuesday evening in an away game against Eastern Baptist of Phila- delphia. Coached by Sara Gregory, the Highlanders go into their first game with all of last year’s starting five returning to action. Last year’s high scoring ace, Arlene Kozich of Dallas, is back and will be trying to beat her 106 point record of last season. The second and third high scorers for last year, Judy Phillips of Dallas and Debbie Smith of Highlanders lineup this year. Against Eastern Baptist last year, the Highlanders won 60-50 in a game played at Miseri- cordia. The Highlanders went on to finish the season with a 7-4 record.
