Rose Jr., president and chief executive officer of The Wilkes-Barre, shareholders of the bank approved a two for one stock split at a special meeting held December 1. The Back Mountain's new chamber orchestra, the Sin- fonia da Camera, presented its concert at College Misericordia last Wednesday evening, bringing to fruition the work of numerous area residents and College Misericordia personnel, and marking the beginning of what promises to be a successful concert season. Playing to an audience of approximately 300, the 22-piece orchestra presented a concert concentrating on music of the Baroque era for the first half and concluding with some unusual chamber orchestra pieces by contemporary composers. All parts of the performance were well received by the audience, with particularly long applause given to the young oboe soloist Robert Atherholt when he performed Alessandro Mar- cello’s “Concerto’’ for Oboe in C Minor. Richard Dower, assistant professor of music at College Misericordia, was also a featured soloist with his harpsichord performance. Sinfonia da Camera con- ductor, Ferdinand Liva, in- dicated that he was pleased with the Sinfonia’s premiere performance. Now, Liva said, he would like to take the or- chestra ‘on the road” playing in nearby cities. Two cities have already expressed an interest in the orchestra, Liva said, naming Bloomsburg and Williamsport. Orchestra organizers, ex- pressing some disappointment over the size of the initial audience, were optimistic about future performances of the Sinfonia. The orchestra has two remaining concerts scheduled for the academic year; one Feb. 7 and one May 9. Both will be held at College Misericordia. ‘We feel the area is both capable and willing to support the orchestra,” Miriam Weisbord, recording secretary for the orchestra, said. ‘We look forward to the growth of the Sinfonia da Camera support both monetarily and in at- tendance at future concerts” A Christmas fellowship dinner will be held Dec. 10th at the East Dallas Methodist Church beginning at 5 p.m. The dinner is to com- memorate the 45th anniversary of the church charter, Dec. 12, 1927. Fellowship Frioys Hayride at Mohawk The Sr. Methodist Youth Fellowship of the Trucksville United Church recently held a hayride at the Mohawk Riding Stables, Harveys Lake. Following the hayride the group Grotto. The group is also making plans for a spaghetti dinner in the near future. Attending were Bonnie Baird, Ruth Owens, Barbara Pichert, Patsy Rosnick, Debbie Dymond, Debra Wasserott, Calvin Gensel, Dan Enslen, Mark Engler, Warren Gensel and counselors Joan Wasserott and the Rev. Earl Roberts. The dedication ceremony was held January 1 through 6, 1928 with the Rev. George M. Bell D.D.L.L.D., the Wilkes-Barre district, of- ficiating. The Rev. Judson N. Bailey was minister of the church at this time. East Dallas was part of the Dallas charge at this time. Presently East Dallas is now on the Centermoreland charge with the Rev. Roy V. W. Ash- moll serving as pastor. The church has 145 members with a church school; United Methodist Women’s Society with Mrs. Warren Stanton, president; an active M.Y.F. led by Mrs. Dale Wagner; and a senior choir directed by the church organist Larry Sorber.
