Lake-Lehman Junior High Initiates Pilot Program A pilot program will be initiated this year in the Lake- Lehman Junior High School, with concentration on industrial arts, music, home economics, sciee and geography. In the past, art and music were offered one period per week gor 36 weeks; science and geogt¥phy were offered for a half year in grades 7 and 8, and hohe economics and industrial arts were given for two periods a week. Under the new program, three ‘periods of art will be made ‘available to all seventh grade students; three periods of music to all eighth graders; a full . year of science in the seventh ‘grade; and a full year of geography in the eigth grade. For the ‘boys in the seventh grade, a full year of industrial arts will be offered; for the girls; a. full year of home t iS planned that the same areas of work will be covered but the concentration will allow for fggtter articulation. Seventh grade students will be in class for 34 periods out of a 40 period week, and if they successfully complete all their subjects, will have earned 6.8 credits. Eighth grade students will be in class for 31 periods and will earn 6.2 credits; ninth graders will be in class for 32 periods per week and will earn 6.4 credits. Students in the junior high school who elect band will in- crease their class load by three and increase their credits earned by .6. , Reading Program The reading program is another type of concentrated program which has been used in past years with success. TIE .S.E.A. Title 1 Program (reading improvement with supportive services) has been approved for the 1971 school year. The reading program will begin with grades one’ through nine.
