Shades of yesteryear...It must have been a Saturday when this
unidentified schoolboy perched on a fencepost in front of the one-
room schoolhouse in a Back Mountain community.
Lake-Lehman Junior High
Initiates Pilot Program
A pilot program will be
initiated this year in the Lake-
Lehman Junior High School,
with concentration on industrial
arts, music, home economics,
sciee and geography.
In the past, art and music
were offered one period per
week gor 36 weeks; science and
geogt¥phy were offered for a
half year in grades 7 and 8, and
hohe economics and industrial
arts were given for two periods
a week.
Under the new program,
three ‘periods of art will be
made ‘available to all seventh
grade students; three periods of
music to all eighth graders; a
full . year of science in the
seventh ‘grade; and a full year
of geography in the eigth grade.
For the ‘boys in the seventh
grade, a full year of industrial
arts will be offered; for the
girls; a. full year of home
t iS planned that the same
areas of work will be covered
but the concentration will allow
for fggtter articulation. Seventh
grade students will be in class
for 34 periods out of a 40 period
week, and if they successfully
complete all their subjects, will
have earned 6.8 credits.
Eighth grade students will be
in class for 31 periods and will
earn 6.2 credits; ninth graders
will be in class for 32 periods per
week and will earn 6.4 credits.
Students in the junior high
school who elect band will in-
crease their class load by three
and increase their credits
earned by .6.
, Reading Program
The reading program is
another type of concentrated
program which has been used in
past years with success.
TIE .S.E.A. Title 1 Program
(reading improvement with
supportive services) has been
approved for the 1971 school
year. The reading program will
begin with grades one’ through
nine.
The following teachers will
assist in the program:

Wilkes Offers Curriculum
Leading to M.A.
The Graduate Division of
Wilkes College is offering a
curriculum leading to the
Master’s Degree in business
administration, according to
Ralph B. Rozelle, director of
graduate studies.
The purposes of the program
are to develop professional
managers with emphasis on the
foundation, organization, oper-
ation, and control of business
enterprises; to develop indi-
viduals trained in research and
constructive business leader-
ship; to ‘enable individuals to
create and evaluate alternative
courses of action as a procedure
for making decisions.
Designed to provide business
education at the master’s level,
the program is not only for

those who have had undergrad-
uate training in business and
economics, but also for inter-
ested engineers, scientists,
social scientiest and others who
have a minimum amount of
background education in busi-
ness and economics.
For those with background
deficiencies, pre-seminar
courses are offered. These are
intended to provide the neces-
sary background, and also act
as refresher courses for those
who have been away from
formal course work for a
number of years.
The program is structured for
the convenience of the student.
Courses are offered in the even-
ing, for the convenience of those
who are presently engaged in
business, government or pro-
fessions.
