District WSCS Hears Missionary Wilkes-Barre District 'WSCS met Wednesday Evening, in the Firwood Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre. Mabel Lorah, native of West Pittston spoke. She was a public school teacher until World War II, after which she went to the Chris- tian High School in Lima, Peru, where she taught Home Economics and third grade English. Miss Lorah is now on furlough. She has a sister, Miss Louneta Lorah who is a missionary at the Kyoaikan Social Center near Ueno, Tokyo. Mrs. B. Everett Lord, President of the Wilkes-Barre District, pre- sented Honor Roll certificates to the Local Societies. Mrs. Reynolds has studied voice with Edith Marie Hoffman, Wilkes- Barre, and with Wilbur Isaacs and Clifford Balshaw at Wilkes College; piano with Augusta Fritz and Har- old Briggs of Scranton; organ with James Harrison of Wyoming Semi- nary, and Charles Henderson and Clifford Balshaw of Wilkes. She participated in a European Music Education Tour under the sponsor- ship of Temple University. She has been organist at Simpson Methodist Church, Scranton, and Falls Methodist ‘Church; has served as Organist and Choir Director for six years at Bennett Presbyterian Church, Luzerne; one year at Forty Fort Presbyterian; five years Dallas Methodist, and ten years at Firwood Methodist, Wilkes-Barre. Mrs. Reynolds is a member of the Board and Soprano Soloist of ‘the Wyoming Valley Oratorio So- ciety; Past Dean of the American Guild of Organists in Wilkes-Barre; Past President of the Mozart Club of Wilkes-Barre. She has been soloist in many churches in the val- ley, and teacher of piano and voice for twenty years. The Music Committee is estab- lishing ‘three choirs to assist in a total Church program: Wesleyan Choir, for children from six years, up to and including those in the 6th grade. # Aldersgate Choir, for young people now in 7th Grade, up to and including those in 11th grade. Senior Choir, for young people now in 12th grade, those who have completed high school, and all interested adults. Two New Elders Carry On Work Of Instruction In Mormon Faith Two new elders representing the Mormon Church are installed in , Trucksville, visiting members of the community, and explaining the ten- ets of the faith of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Mormon elders, “elder” in name only, serve their church as mission- aries for two years of their young manhood, looking upon the exper- ience as part of their education, and financed by their families. The two elders who were here during the summer have been trans- ferred to other fields. People barely get to know the elders before they are replaced with other young mis- sionaries. Elders Ralph B: and Brent Riggs say they have been welcomed heartily by ‘the Back Mountain, in residents know about Mormonism. The Back Mountain Library has several books on the Mormons, contribution of former elders. Both new elders come from Cal- ifornia, Mr. Brown from San Diego County, Mr. Riggs from Los Angeles. Elder Brown, having completed. his overseas duty with the U. S. Marines, is jnvesting his two years with the church before embarking on his career as a school teacher. Elder Riggs will return to his third year of Agricultural studies. Elmer Haring Dies Biter Long Illness Services for Elmer Harry Haring, afternoon from Disque Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was at Chapel Lawn. Har- ry Walters, Leslie Tinsley, James Sickler, and Craig Herdman beareres. Mr. Haring died late Thursday afternoon in ‘General Hospital where he had been admitted a month earlier. ; He had been in failing health for the past eight years, retiring in 1958 from Vulcan Iron Works where he had been employed 37 years as a machinist. serving as Born in Scranton, son of the late Harry and Emma Evans Haring he married the former Rose -Kibbler Noxen. The couple would have ob- served their 50th wedding anniver- sary on January 2. The couple lived in Forty Fort for some time before moving to Dallas and 15 years ago to Beau- mont, where Mr. Haring built his own home, spending on it every spare moment. Admiral Harold Stark, passing on his way to Lake one day made the anonymous gift of a lovely door knocker, commend- ing the builder on his industry and perseverance, Mr. Haring was an active member of Monnroe Baptist Church and Su- perintendent of its Sunday School. He is survived in addition to his widow by two children: Roland, Bal- timore and Mrs. Wilbur Davis, Dal- las. Also four grandchildren. Society Plans To Send Clothing To Orphanage The Missionary Society of the Glenview P. M. Church met Thurs- day evening at the home of Mrs. Andrew Derrick. Letters were read from Dessie Scott’s Children’s Home and Mrs. Lillian Dickson in Formosa. The Group will hold a work day next Tuesday at the home of Miss Verna Lamoreaux. Childrens clothing and games will be sent to the orphans at Dessie Scott's Children’s Home in Kentucky. Present were: Mesdames John Fluck, Nesbitt Moore, Roy Moss, George Shaver, Jr., Sam Higgins, Miss Verna Lamoreaux and the Before coming to Trucksville, he gerved as a Mormon elder in Buf- falo. He is especially interested in promoting the existing youth pro- gram in this area.
