Everything was in readiness with Mrs. Ide and her companion, Mrs. Sterling Barnes, seated gracefully among the gorgeous blooms, at- tired in peasant costumes. All of a sudden something snapped and over backward tipped the two-wheel farm cart, tossing outflowers, Mrs. Ide, companion, et el. No oneknew the difference when the cartreached the parade grounds for all was quickly gathered up and restored . but of course, Mrs. Ide, per- fectionist that she is, has always felt the flower cart looked a mess. In spite of this mishap, the horse drawn flower cart will always be remembered as one of the lovely highlights of the July 4th Lehman parade. When asked if the cart would be entered in this year’s parade, Mrs. Ide said “definitely no.” Twicewas enough, she said, and then added with a sign that Old Dobbin had passed away and she didn’t know where she could possibly find such a perfect sleepy old flower cart horse again. And so, you see, there are many aspects to. flower arranging. One PAGE 13-1 Save Money When you build a wood patio deck, you can save money by not painting it. Simply let the Douglas fir planks weather naturally. In about a season, they will bleach to an incom- parable shade of silver. Color for Deck If you want color for your patio deck, introduce it by paint- ing the deck railing or choosing colorful garden furniture. Paint- ing Douglas fir deck boards will only add future maintenance. Pool Pavilion If you have a swimimng pool, you'd be smart to build a small garden pavilion at the poolside for a cooling off spot. The struc- ture can be a simple post and beam affair with a trellis style roof. Cover the top of the trellis roof with reed matting or vines for shade. Use sturdy Douglas "fir for the pavilion.
