Frederic Andersons, Hosts To Debaters Mr. and Mrs. Frederic Anderson, Pioneer Avenue, Shavertown, enter- tained over the weekend, members of the debating team of Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. Visiting the Back Mountain Area were Dr. Martin Holcomb, head of the speech department at Augustana, Donald Johnson, Thomas Benson, Maris’ Kirsons and Thomas Young- ran. These boys representing the mid- western college, were champions at the Garvey Debates held at Kings College last week, along with many other institutions of higher learning. They are the only team to make the national tournament at West Point every year. The boys are classmates of Fred- eric Jr, a pre-seminary student at Augustana College. They will leave Wednesday morning for Dartmouth College, Hanover, N. H. to debate. Mrs. Elsie Wesley Was Ninety On Monday Mrs. Elsie Wesley, Sweet Valley, who is spending the winter with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Cope, 2449 South Fourth St., Allentown, observed her ninetieth birthday on February 12. Mrs. Wesley has another daughter; Mrs, Rhoda Burlingame, Berwick, two sons," George, Sweet Valley, and Orville, Vestal, N. Y.; sixteen grandchidren and twenty great grandchildren. Mrs. Wesley, who is in good health, maintains her own home in Sweet Valley during the summer months. Here she enjoys her gard- ening and lifelong friends of the area. Albert Smith Enjoys Birthday At Home Mr. Albert Smith, who is self- employed, hauling cars for the Great Lakes Forwarding Co., managed to be home on his birthday, February 6, giving the family an opportun- ity to get together. Mr. Smith’s daughter-in-law, Shirley, made a freezer of home-made ice cream to go with the beautiful birthday cake, baked and decorated by Mrs. Smith.
