‘80th Birthday Party
‘When Mrs. Eliza Fielding’s twen-
ty-four grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren, paid her a sur.
prise visit on Sunday afternoon,
February 4, on the occasion of her
80th birthday, she thought that was
the - extent of her celebration; but
little did she realize at the time,
the still greater surprise which was
to come to her that evening, when

Annette Swartz
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Swartz, Lake
Silkworth, announce the birth of a
daughter, Annette, February 9, at
Mercy Hospital. The new arrival
weighed seven pounds, four ounces.
There are two .other children in
the family, Joanita, aged nine and
Christopher, six. A son Jerome died
in infancy last year. Mrs. Swartz
is the former Florence Fostock, Ply-
mouth. Mr. Swartz is employed by
Sordoni Construction Company.

Word has been received by Mrs.
Thomas E. Williams, Lehman, that
she has passed the State Board
examination for registered nurses.
Mrs. Williams, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Arlington Vanderhoff, Leh.
man Heights, graduated from Geis-
inger Memorial Hospital of Nursing
with the class of 1961. She is a
1958 graduate of Lehman-Jackson-
Ross High School.
A sister Janet, is a student nurse
at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem,
halfway through her training. Janet
also is a Lehman graduate.

Dallas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Carol,
to Frederick E. Hons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester E. Hons,

Miss Rother is a graduate of Westmoreland High
School and is employed by the Commonwealth Telephone

ersary and Mr. Lloyd's eighty-fifth
birthday anniversary on Friday,
February 9.
Mrs. Lloyd is the former Eva El-
lis, daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William Ellis of Bloomingburg,
N. Y. Mr. Lloyd is son of the late
Mr. aand Mrs. Oscar Lloyd, also
of Bloomingburg. The couple was
married at the home of the bride
in 1897 and remained in Blooming-
burg where Mr. Lloyd was a cattle
dealer for twelve years. They then
came to Scranton where Mr. Lloyd
worked for the Railroad for five
years. From then on his heart has
been in the automobile business,
for forty years with Scott Fenster-
macher, Overland Dealer in Wilkes-
Barre, later with Jim Oliver, in
Dallas. More recently he worked for
Jack Richardson where he still

She has been associated with the
firm for eighteen years. Mr. Shupp
will ‘retire March 1 after serving
Penn Power and Light Company for
thirty-one years. He is devoted to
sports, especially baseball and
bowling.

Hosts To Debaters
Mr. and Mrs. Frederic Anderson,
Pioneer Avenue, Shavertown, enter-
tained over the weekend, members
of the debating team of Augustana
College, Rock Island, Illinois.
Visiting the Back Mountain Area
were Dr. Martin Holcomb, head of
the speech department at Augustana,
Donald Johnson, Thomas Benson,
Maris’ Kirsons and Thomas Young-
ran.
These boys representing the mid-
western college, were champions at
the Garvey Debates held at Kings
College last week, along with many
other institutions of higher learning.
They are the only team to make
the national tournament at West
Point every year.
The boys are classmates of Fred-
eric Jr, a pre-seminary student at
Augustana College. They will leave
Wednesday morning for Dartmouth
College, Hanover, N. H. to debate.
Mrs. Elsie Wesley Was
Ninety On Monday
Mrs. Elsie Wesley, Sweet Valley,
who is spending the winter with
her son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Rex Cope, 2449 South
Fourth St., Allentown, observed her
ninetieth birthday on February 12.
Mrs. Wesley has another daughter;
Mrs, Rhoda Burlingame, Berwick,
two sons," George, Sweet Valley,
and Orville, Vestal, N. Y.; sixteen
grandchidren and twenty great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Wesley, who is in good
health, maintains her own home in
Sweet Valley during the summer
months. Here she enjoys her gard-
ening and lifelong friends of the
area. She is a member of the Church
of Christ, Sweet Valley.
Albert Smith Enjoys
Birthday At Home
Mr. Albert Smith, who is self-
employed, hauling cars for the Great
Lakes Forwarding Co., managed to
be home on his birthday, February
6, giving the family an opportun-
ity to get together. Mr. Smith’s
daughter-in-law, Shirley, made a
freezer of home-made ice cream to
go with the beautiful birthday cake,
baked and decorated by Mrs. Smith.
The three Smith boys, Bill, Bob,
and Darwin were on hand with
greetings for their Dad, Also at-
tending was Bill and Shirley's lit-
tle Wendy Elaine, the honoree’s only
grandchild.

of rosepoint lace fashioned with
scoop neckline and long tight sleeves
tapered at the wrist. Her chapel
train fell from a full bouffant skirt
with insets of rosepoint lace and
her veil of French illusion from a
crown of seed pearls and crystal-
ettes. She carried a bouquet of white
roses.

den, sister of the bride and brides-
maids, Susan Chesney, Sheila Mas-
on, of Delmar and Carole Mant of

Board Meets
The Executive Board of the Harv-
eys Lake Woman's Service Club
will meet’ at Esthers Restaurant,
Beaumont, on Monday evening,
February 19, at 8 p.m. !
Mrs. Ralph Lutes, Mrs. Ruth Deets
and Mrs. Edward Crake are host-
esses.
There are three sons, Bert, mana-
ger of a beach front hotel in Miami,
Bill, with the Shell Oil Company in |
Huntington, L. I. and Richard, at
home, driver of a Greyhound bus |
for the past twenty six years; also
two grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.
Both the Lloyds have been active
members of the Trucksville Metho-
dist Church for nearly thirty years,
serving on the various boards and
in all organizations. Mr. Lloyd has |
been a Mason for sixty years. They |
are both in fair health, continuing
about their household duties with
zest, puttering around the yard,
the cook stove and family car for
recreation.
Here's hoping they have sixty
five more years of health and happi-
ness together!
Frank Youngs To Observe
Twenty-third Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Young, Sr.
Lake Silkworth; will observe their
twenty-third anniversary on Sun-
day, February 18. They were mar-
ried February 18, 1939 at St. Mich-
aels Church, Easton, by the Rev.
Father S. Garmus. Mrs. Young is
the former Patromella Yorkus, Eas-

The couple has three children,
Frank, Jr. stationed at the Lan-
caster Missile Base, N. Y.; Karen,
a member of the Junior class and
Paul, a Freshman, both at Lake
