RURAL SUPPLY SHICKSHINNY & Susie #1 Sutlift Laid To Rest Born On Land-Grant From Penn Mrs , 92, passed quietly yv early Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Herring, Huntington Mills. She was ‘widely connected in this area, the aunt of Dr. Carl Hontz and Howard Hontz of Shavertown, Ar- thur Hontz of Trucksville, and Stan- ley Hontz who lives on the old homestead in Sweet Valley. Three ministers conducted ser- vices for Mrs. Sutliff Monday at 2 from the Bronson Funeral Home: Rev. E. J. Waterstripe, Rev. William Hughes, and Rev. William Price. Burial was ‘in Bloomingdale Ceme- tery. She was a native of Sweet Valley, daughter of the late: Andrew and Polly Shaw Hontz, who acquired the tract of land for the homestead in 1852, cleared it, and built the home where Susie was born July 9, 1866. The land was part of an original grant from William Penn. In 1891, Susie Hontz and Oliver Sutliff were married, and a year later they purchased the store in Bloomingdale which they operated for forty-five years, before selling it to Chan Sickler of Orange in 1938. Mr. and Mrs. Sutliff celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding ‘anniver- sary before the death of Mr. Sutliff in 1947. They belonged to Sweet Valley Church of Christ. She was a tiny woman with an amazing sense of humor, and a ready tongue for reminiscence. Her mind remained alert until the last, though she steadily failed in health for the past few years. One of the last parades that Sweet Valley staged, had in its line-up Mrs. Sutliff, beaming from the buggy seat, and dressed in the fashion of a bygone day, Aunt Susie driven by nephew Stanley. Mrs. Sutliff is survived by only one child, Mrs. Herring, and one grandchild, but she has a host of connections in the Back Mountain. West Side Vs Seek Members Helium Balloon To Help In Campaign Jack Naylis, chairman of West Side Junior Chamber of Commerce membership drive announces that the drive is proving a great success. Mrs. J. C. Bunny, now making the rounds of the active members seems to be the spark needed to assist in getting members. Eight new members have been added to the rolls and more are expected by the end of the year. In January, Naylis is starting off with another member-getting idea. A huge helium inflated balloon will be passed from member to member until each gets a new member for the Jaycees. The balloon will be printed with the slogan “I Did Not Get My New Member For The West Side Jaycees.” As soon as a new member is obtained the balloon will be passed on to someone else. Naylis is being assisted in this | drive by Brad Williams who is Di- rector of membership activities, Marvin Slomovitz, Bud Crossin and Bob Lange.. Naylis states that all men between the ages of 21 and 35, who are interested in civic develop- ment and community betterment work are eligible to join the West Side Jaycees.
