Waverly Show September 9-18 Many Will Attend From Dallas Area Waverly, Pennsylvania, is again making ready for its fourteenth an- nual Antiques Show "at Waverly Community House Monday and Tuesday, September 9th and 10th, the week after Labor Day. ‘Mrs. Frank E. Hemelright is General Chairman, and Mrs. E. C. Aydelott, Vice Chairman. Its reputation as a fine show is attested by the fact that most of: the exhibitors have been returning for years. There is waiting list for booths. The visitors’ book shows that each year the area from which they come grows larger, and now | covers all of Eastern Pennsylvania, { and adjacent New York and New Jersey. : Twenty-five exhibitors will display their best pieces. There will be a| loan exhibit arranged by the Com- mittee, using articles loaned by resi- dents of the Abingtons. Through the cooperation of two of the Waverly churches, dinner is served each evening, and a snack bar is open during the afternoon and evening. Waverly is a residential village nine miles north of Scranton (on Route 407), and the Community House is a large brick building on the Main Street, so out - of - town visitors will have no trouble in finding it. They will find that a visit is not only enjoyable, but well worthwhile. Trucksville P.O. Offers Career Richard J. Bureau of Stan- dards on more than 150 fuel and: oil additives showed that none made any important improvement in en- gine performance. Some were cor- rosive to hard metal bearings. So reports Burton Horne, Penn State extension agricultural engineer. Protect Pigs — Cocklebur is pois- onous to pigs when it is in the young, two-leaf stage. Dwight Youn- kin, Penn State extension livestock specialist, warns farmers to keep pigs off pasture in which cockleburs are growing until the plants can be killed or they are too large to poison the animals. Keep Eggs Cool — Heat destroys egg quality. Carl Dossin, Penn State extension poultry specialist, recom- mends gathering eggs several times . a day and removing the animal heat at once. Then store in a cool place. Cross-ventilation in the henhouse helps both the layers and the eggs. Test Wheat Moisture — A simple moisture test will tell when wheat is ready to be combined. Frank Bamer, Penn State extension agro- nomist, says all you need are a teaspoon, a wide-mouth bottle with a screw cap, and free-flowing am- monium chloride. Control Insects — You don’t have to slap at biting insects. Stanley Gesell, Penn State extension ento- mologist, reminds that effective re- pellents are available to protect people from the discomfort and an- noyance of the biting insects. Use Right Chemical — For control of crabgrass, be sure you get the right chemical, cautions Albert Cooper, Penn State extension agro- nomist. Card Of Thanks _ The family of the late David Ed- wards wishes to thank friends and neighbors who sent flowers, loaned cars, or rendered personal services during their recent bereavement. “Without a right not to join (a union) there can be no such thing as a right to join.”—Rev.
