Please—Don't All Hit The Road At Once! If every car and truck owner in the state of Peninsylviania tried to go for a ride on the same [Sunday afternoon, there would be a vehicle every 14 yards an every paved street and highway in the state. e Fortunately, ‘the odds lare against this happening, since the average miotorist spends only about 25 ‘days’ a year in his car, according to James J, Newman, vice president of the B. F, Goodrich company. He points out that estimates of ‘American automobile usage and driver habits show that the average motorist drove 9,000 miles last year. At his average pace of 30 miles an hour, this totals 300 hours, or 25 daylight driving days. This is only 6.8 per cent of the daylight hours in a year, he says. Newman says that ‘the state's motor vehicle registration today is at its highest mark in history and will probably reach an estimated 3,292,000 early this year. Hard- surfaced road mileage in both rural and urban areas of the state is 25,- 754, which is also a mew high. He reports that drivers through- out the mation feel traffic jams are responsible for the loss of millions registrations to bring the nation’s Member Of 1905 Class Visits Old Friends A member, of the Class - 1905 | at Dallas Borough High School, Rob- ert Fraley, superintendent of the Shipping Department of Endicott- Johnson Shoe Company, stopped off | last weekend to visit old friends in Dallas, among them his former | school principal, Ralph H, Rood. This, he points put, seems to leave little chance for lan early let-up in today’s traffic congestion. Newman, “former (chairman of the Inter-Industry Highway Safety Com- mittee, says he believes that the nation’s traffic problem could be solved if authorities start work now on lan expanded national highway program, improved parking and un- loading facilities, ‘and revisions of outmoded traffic systems and regu- lations, : LINCOLN - QUALITY IN And Guaranteed MERCURY EVERY LINE!
