C say; About throe mllos from this vlllago, on the Ocstrolcher farm, Inst Tuesday night, occurred a terrible tragedy, In Which nine persons lost their Uvea. A two story frame building on the farm was occupied by Jacob Solomons, his wife and seven children, the eldest aged 1C years, and tho youngest an In fant ot 1 year. On Wednesday some! one passing saw that tho house was Bono, and on approaching to Investi gate found that every vcstlgo ot It was burned and the bodies of tho nine oc cupants, or rather the charred trunks of nlno human bodies, were lying in tho ashes. Tho coroner's inquest disclosed these facts: That the house was shattered In the lower story by tho last autumnal storms, which also carried away the I chimneys; that Solomons had resorted to the. makeshift of building two fires, one to cook on and tho other for warmth, Inside tho lower stories of tho house, on two circular mill saws, raised irom tno board uoor on small pieces ol iron, Tho solto, sparks and flamo es caped from tho flro as host thoy could. Evidently after tho family had re- tlrod upstairs tho blow that came up ot 12 o'clock that night fanned tho flames, which communicated to the partition of the stairway and set the house afire Agonizing shrieks. It was learned. wore heard by a neighbor a mllo dis tant, and must havo come from these unfortunate crcutures whon they were precipitated Into tho holocaust that was yawning below thom. Jacob, the miner; Amy, tno wire and mother; Rollins, Hattlo, Charllo, Nora, Isaac, Willie and Mamie were all burned. Tno verdict of the coronor's Jury was In effect that they came to their deaths through the culpable negligence of Ja cob Solomons in neglcctelng to build a chimney for his family's use.
