I IMPORTANT PART. "6. M'S.," In the Philadelphia Evening Star, which Is not very friend ly to Senuton- Quay and Ciitueroii, snys they will have a most Importiiut piirt to play lu the preparation of the He ublicn party for the ue::t l'reaiden tial campaign. I am assuming, of course, that Quay will be returned to the Senate after Ills present term ex pires in March. The combination to which they belong In the upper brand) of Congress is most powerful and ag gresslve and has no love nor use for Harrison. The light Cameron will have to mak' for p new term will com--in the Presidential year. He and his colleague will be in a better position to make their power felt in the Semite with aDemoarat in the White House. They could get no favors from Harri son lu a roundabout way, and proba bly putting themselves under obliga tions to Administration Senators. Their ostracism gained them the sym pathy of the Democats. The latter nreou top now, aud while it will not he possible for the two Senators to ob tain any patrouuge from a Democratic administration, there exists a thous and and one ways where their friends on the Democratic side of the Senate can give them a lifting hand in the struggle they are bound to have with the Harrison Senators for the control of the party organlz-itlon. INCONSISTENCY. The Democratic State of North Car. olina levies a duty of 25 centsa ton on all fertilizer iniportod from other States, aud also levies a licence on commercial travelers from outside Its horders. The IUleigh (N. C.) Chroni cle of September 27, a Democratic Kree-Trudejounal, upholds this fertili zer tarifl, aud congratulates the farm ers ou a late decision of Jude Sey mour declariug that legislation couttl tutioual and virtu lly continuing it. A North Carolina correspondent writes: The Freo-Trader says it Is unconasituttonal for the United States to protect Its pooplo by levying a tax on goods brought from foreign lands. It Is a fraud and robbery. But tbo Stato t North Carolina Is groatertban tho combined Statos of theUnlonl -he can and does levy a tax (Protective TarlU) of 25 cents a ton on all fottlltzers Imported from other Statos. It Is levied not "for revenue only," but, tho Freo-Trader Is caretul to say, to protect .the frtnwr. In tho meantime, the manufacture of fertiliz ers In North Carolina has Increased largely. This Is Democratic consistency. The Chronicle holds this tax la need ed to protect the farmer from adulter ated stuff, but a hoard of examiners would do that far better. WINTER TOURIST TICKETS. Everything Is in rendiness for the great foot-ball game on Manhattan Field this afternoon between Yale nnd Princeton. The teams are comfortably quartered In this city, Yale at the Fifth Avenue Hotel and Princeton nt the Murray Hill. Every seat has been sold and he will ba i lucky Individual indeed who, not ilrcady having secured a ticket, succeeds In getting standing room on the grounds when tho game is culled. Oieat Iniorent In the Game. While it is doubtful whether the matches between the teams otthese two colleges are as interestiugto true football lovers as tho games between Harvard and Yale, it is nevertheless certain thai, the Thanksgiving Day game creates a general interest which the Springfield game has never aroused. Tho general attendance far exceeds that at the contest between the Crimson and Blue, and the reports of the game are engerly awaited by thou sands ot persons living in distant places, to whom the game at Ifampden Park is a matter of comparatively littlo conse quence. Young collegians and graduates are drawn to the Thanksgiving Day game in greater numbers than to any other ath letic contest of the year. Society, also, has udopted it as ono of its Bpecial func tions. The Interest taken in the game has been yearly increasing. Noise Already llec;un, A glance at the hotels and theatres last night showed that the vanguard of the crowd had already arrived. On every (hand were seen little groups of young men with a knot of blue or of black and orange in their buttonholes. They broke out into spasmodic cheers, es pecially when one ot their number had succeeded in landing abet on his favorite team. The crowd and the noise, how- ver, were as nothing when compared with what will be seen and hoard after the gamo is finished. Itoth Tuuliis In fine Condition. Both of the teams are in first-class con dition. The Yale team took their last practice Tuesday at New Haven. In ad dition to the regular team eleven substi tutes and coachers Hoppelfinger, Camp, Rhodes, Harvey and McCluug came to the city. All the trainers, rubbers down nnd general lackeys also accompany the team. The Princeton team Is in charce ot Trainer McMasters former Captain Poe, Aloxander Moffntt, Tracy Harris, George Edwards, Sport Donnelly nnd Warren. Just at the last moment Uapt. King has decided to make an important change in the composition ot his eleven. He, himself, has determined to move up to quarter back and put Morse, who has formerly passed tne uau, urck into uis position. The change wa? nciuaieu uy iuo anso-- lute necessity of having Cnpt. King play throughout the entire game. Ills knee Is still quite wo.ik and thore is ot course less danger ot his becoming hurt wutlo laying quarter back thnu while plnylng half. Quarter hack is also a better posi tion from which to give the Bignals. 1 Morse is a very speedy and hnrd runner, ! and ns he has not been injured during the season, he will probably lie able to put 1 up a stronger game at nan than wouiu King. How They Will l.lna Up. Cnpt. McCormlck, of the Yale eleven will play tbo same tenm as bo did last Saturday ut Springfield. Tho betting is still in favor ot Yale, tho odds being from 5 to 3 to 5 to 2 on tlio Blue. A great deal of Ynle money has been sent down to Princeton at these odds, and covered by tho undergraduates. Several bets ranging between $10 anil $50 were also made in the hotels of this city last night. The largest bet known tc have been made Is ono of $1,000 to (760 ou Yale. t- It js very hard to gain any definite idea ot the respective style of play of the two teams, because Princeton's practice has, during tho past two weeks, been strictly in secret, in kicking and puutlng the two are about eveulv matched. A Revolution has been brought about by the introduction of Cottolene, the new vegetable shortening. The discovery of this product, and the demonstration of its remarkable qualities, has attracted the widest interest. Hitherto the common shortening has been lard, or indifferent butter. Every one has probably suffered occasional dis comfort from lard-cooked food ; while it is well known that thous ands are obliged toabstainentire ly from everything of that kind. To such people, Cottolene is of peculiar value, widening as it does, the range of what may be eaten and enjoyed. Cottolene is a cooking marvel. It combines with the food imparts to it a tempting color, a delicate flavor, and an appetizing crispness. No trace of greasiness remains to offend the taste, or disturb the digestion. Cottolene is worthy of the careful notice of all those who value good food, of itself or for its hygienic properties. Sold by Leading Grocers. Mads only by N. K. FAIRBANK & CO., CHICAGO and 113 K.
