NO DISTURBANCES REPORTED Tho Fakirs Struck a Cold Snap and Had a Poor Day Through Viarilanco of tho Police ' Authorities. VERY thing passed off quietly in town yestorday. Not a dis turbance was reported and no one suffered any loss through pick pockets or like disrepu table characters who usually follow up the circuses. Forepaugh's Shows aro no exception to the rule. Bums and other suspicious looking characters cling to the tonts liko flios on a molasses barrel and manage to hold on to them a they pass from one town to another. But to the credit of tho management of the shows, bo it said, that every provision possible is made to protect the public against theso pests. Two detectives omployed by the shows spot all such characters and point them out for tho benefit of tho police of towns whore tho tents aro put up. iiut tne greatest vigilance cannot rid a circus ot the fakirs. Thoy will follow the tonts and ply their schemes in the towns in which they aro pitched in defiance of the law and authorities. But yesterday this class of people wore struck by a cold wave. Chief Burgess Smith positively refused to give any of them a license. Even tho gonial, old-time Brooks found it impossible to soften the heart of the Burgess. Air, Smith is certainly deserving of praiso for his work in this connection and he is mak ing an excellent reputation tor himself. Ho gave notice last week that under no cir cumstances would ho tolorate the fakirs and he showed yestorday that he ia a man of his word. Chief of Police Davies and his assistants aro are also to be compll mented for the support thoy gave tho Bur gess in this work, and also for tho admirable manner in which thoy kopt tho town under control. There were but two arrests during tho ontlroday, which is an excellent record. The parties arrested woro men who per sisted in disobeying tho orders of tho authorities. One, a man who gave the name of M. Lewis and said he resided in Wilkes-Barre, attempted! to play a shell game at tbo Philadelphia & Reading pas- senger depot. lie was scooped in by Constable Toomey and put under bail for trial. The fakir's "tools of trade" were confiscated and aro in possession of 'Squire Monaghan. Tbo other party .was also a fakir and he was released upon paying a fine. There were no drunks or d sorderlies. no fights and no accidonts, yet it is estimated that there were fully eight thousand vial- tors of all classes In the town during the day. Renorts of rontflmnl(fl Hanrorfodnn. were numerous yesterday afternoon. Some said that tho ''natch W in tm in fmMHMnnmnnnn. .u J noor working tlmn t ih nnin,i. .nH tUatthevwera determine In ln .Liu sion to the show, oven If they would bo obliged to cut tho tents and ropes. If the "patch boys" were prepared for such a movement, they very wisely abandoned tbo' project. Tho shows had a large force of men of their own ready for such an emergency and Chief Burgees Smith had his special police scattered about tne grounos in tucn an auvaiuasroous manner that any raid would have beon repulsed effectively and with sorlous loss to tho raiders. There was not a disturbance at either tho afternoon or ovoning perform- ""iv. The main circus tent was well filled during the afternoon performance, but tbo The reserved seats were not half llllod, One dollar was too high for the miners' pockots. Press Agent Starr said last even ing that the attendances at the perfor mances wore disappointments to the man agement. Ho said it was evident that the miners were In need of money, for thoy are always relied upon to pack a circus tent. Tbo production of "Tho Fall of Nin oveh" last ovenlng was an improvement on that of the afternoon by reason of the illuminations showing to better advantage. The dazzling costumes and arms of the warriors, and glittering drosses of tho dancing girls wero very offectivo In tbo rays of tho lights and made tho production much moro Improsslyo than it was in the light of day. 'ino periormances as a whom were ex cellent. Tho baro-back riding, trapeze and slack wiro feats, mld-alr tumbling and leaping, acts by tho trained elephants, cnariot, eiepnant, pony and horse races were all vory pleasing and satisfactory. Of course, many of the old-time circus features were left out, but their places were more than filled by tho magniflcont pro duction of tho biblical play. Tho burlesque pollcoman, tho German with tho imitation kodak, and tho Yankee farmer who kopt walking to and fro look ing for "them darned preservod soats" were side features that afforded abundant amusement for the spectators. Tho evening performance was put through rapidly, but tho acts were in no way marred. The entire entertainment, including tho concort, was over before half past ten, and when tho auditors filed out thoy found that only the main tent romainod standing on the grounds and tho animal cages, the poles and tents and other properties were already loaded on the cars at tho old F, & K. depot, ready to bo hauled to Allentown, whero tho shows are booked for performances this afternoon and even ing. At midnight the sawdust covorod circles and patches were the only evidences that a circus had been in the trotting park dur ing tho day. NOTES. Tho Ready-Pay Storo furnished all tho groceries and provisions fur tho circus. Richard Amour and D. J. dinners were on duty during tho day and evening as spocials at the main entrance. All tho Councilmen were guests of tho management. The kodak man captivated Constable M'Tosh. Councilman Gable occupied a seat close to the ring in which "Do Ato" elephants performed. Chief Burgess Smith met many old-time acquaintances at the circus. When tho man and horse race was run tho Burgess was reminded of tho'times when ho used to walk against a running horse in Barnum circus soveral years ago. Tho attendance at both performances was estimated at 8,000. Fresh Arrivals. A batch., of twenty Hungarian immi grants arrived in town yesterday from New York In time to soe the circus performance, but so much time elapsed before thei friends recognizad them they failed witnois the great show. They stood at th L. V. depot for hours before they were called for and taken to boarding houses, It was amusing to watch some people who have boon in town hardly long enough to got the smell of the sea out of their clothes stand around the new arrivals and smil ingly remark, "Alnt dese funny follows?1 Finest photos, GOc. per dozen,at Keagoy rjuitr, aura imu Bpveuy, Ho oxternal remedy over yet dovisod has so fully and unquestionably met these three prime conditions as successfully as All cock's Porous Piasters.
