Tho delegation was composed mostly of members of the Sabbath School Union of tho Presbyterian Synod of New Jersey and Womcns' Christian Temperance Union. For tho past three weeks the Legisla ture has been Hooded with petitions on tho subject and the special committee to which they have been referred held a meeting yesterday at which the protosts wero heard. Ue re ferred to tlio fact that all tho English exhibitions from the Crystal 1'aluco in 1851 until the Paris exhibition in 1831 had closed their exhibits on Sunday. Tho ouly real argument that he had hoard advanced in favor of opening the gates on Sunday was that it benefited tho working man, To his mind it was just the opposite. If tho gates wero opened the working people would bo compelled to work, and thus they would be deprived of their day of rest. It would not makoany material difference to working men outside of Chicago, for if thy could afford to go to tho fair thoy would go to remain over Sunday. Col. James S.
