Livengood, is at present filling a business engagement with the Roanoke (Va.) Daily World, which will keep him busy there until about the middie of March. He states in a letter that Roanoke is a very up- to-date city, and in mentioning our cousin John H. Yost, formerly of Gar- rett county, Md., but now one of the prominent business men of Roanoke, he says: “Cousin John has a palatial home and is the whole goods in this man’s town. He surely is a hummer, and I cannot express my appreciation too emphatically of the courtesies he has shown me and my partner since coming here. I doubt if Roanoke has a more popular, wide-awake and pro- gressive citizen than John Yost.” Sleighing Party. On Tuesday evening a jolly crowd of twenty Brothersvalley young people drove tothe home of C. B. Dickey and family, where games and music were indulged in until about the midnight hour, when they were ushered into the dining room, where oysters, etc, awaited them, after which the pleasant- ries were again rescued. The party returned home about 2:30 seeming to have enjoyed themselves. One young man said he so much that his stomach hurt. Koontz & Ogle, representing the Connellsville, Uniontown and Wheel- ing Railroad Company, presented a pe- tition to court, recently, in which they asked that the report of viewers be confirmed. The court directed the papers to be filed, and to be confirmed, unless exceptions are filed within thirty days. The Connellsville, Uniontown & Wheeling Company is a subsidiary concern of the B. & O., and is planning to build a large freight yard, and prob- ably another road through the south- ern part of this county, in order to avoid the dangerous Sand Patch tun- nel. The viewers appointed some time since by Judge Kooser to make an in- spection and assess damages in favor of the property owners who failed to agree with the railroad company on the price to be paid for their land, while | others had the tails on. were: J.J.
