The first run of the Woman’s Club,
of New York, Jan. 12th and 13th, from
New York to Philadelphiagand return,
marks a memorable advance in auto-
‘mobile construction. It has been only
& short time since a 280-mile run in
mid-winter would have necessitated
skilled drivers with a good knowledge
of automobile construction, and that
12 cars with only women drivers and
women passengers, should make this
trip without a single mishap, certainly
speaks well for the American car of to-
day.

The editor of an Iowa exchange says:
“The other day we were walking and
passing a home from which emanated
some inspiring strains of music from
the piano and the throat of a charming
young lady, fashionably dressed. The
only words that were audible to us
were something about “dear mother.”
Passing on and turning down a side
street we saw through the open kitchen
door the!dear mother” of the sweet
warbler at work at the wash tub, the
sweat streaming down her care-worn
face. Still she appeared happy and
was singing, “we’ll work nil Jesus
comes.”

Our brother W. 8. Livengood, is at
present filling a business engagement
with the Roanoke (Va.) Daily World,
which will keep him busy there until
about the middie of March. He states
in a letter that Roanoke is a very up-
to-date city, and in mentioning our
cousin John H. Yost, formerly of Gar-
rett county, Md., but now one of the
prominent business men of Roanoke,
he says: “Cousin John has a palatial
home and is the whole goods in this
man’s town. He surely is a hummer,
and I cannot express my appreciation
too emphatically of the courtesies he
has shown me and my partner since
coming here. I doubt if Roanoke has
a more popular, wide-awake and pro-
gressive citizen than John Yost.”
Sleighing Party.
On Tuesday evening a jolly crowd of
twenty Brothersvalley young people
drove tothe home of C. B. Dickey and
family, where games and music were
indulged in until about the midnight
hour, when they were ushered into the
dining room, where oysters, etc,
awaited them, after which the pleasant-
ries were again rescued.
The party returned home about 2:30
seeming to have enjoyed
themselves. One young man said he
so much that his stomach
hurt. He said, too, that some of his
oysters hadn’t the eyes cut out,

Koontz & Ogle, representing the
Connellsville, Uniontown and Wheel-

tition to court, recently, in which they
asked that the report of viewers be
confirmed. The court directed the
papers to be filed, and to be confirmed,
unless exceptions are filed within
thirty days.
The Connellsville, Uniontown &
Wheeling Company is a subsidiary
concern of the B. & O., and is planning
to build a large freight yard, and prob-
ably another road through the south-
ern part of this county, in order to
avoid the dangerous Sand Patch tun-
nel. The viewers appointed some time
since by Judge Kooser to make an in-
spection and assess damages in favor
of the property owners who failed to
