L. Page 36-48. JOSIAH SPECHT, ROBERT AUGUSTINE, C. F. ZIMMERMAN, . Commissioners of Somerset Co. Attest: — R. M. RININGER, Clerk. 1-2 An Old Proverb that Does Not Hold Good. An old proverb says that a ‘green Christmas makes a fat churchyard,” and as most people accept a proverb as if it were indisputably true, it should be said that there is no truth whatever in the particular saying. No warrant is found for it in statistics, and the very fact that people whose health is below the average are ad- vised by physicians to seek a mild climate in winter, should show others that when the Christmas holidays are mild and pleasant they should not be oppressed with any unusual dread of impending death. It is much and more likely that old ladies who dwell in a world of proverbs will come to grief than that undertakers will have any special reason to rejoice. AGREEABLY SURPRISED. Many sufferers from rheumatism have been agreeably surprised at the prompt relief afforded sby applying Chamberlain’s Pain Balm. It makes sleep and rest possible. Some persons who suffer with the afflictions may not feel inclined to place much confidence in this simple mixture, yet those who have tried it say the results are simply surprising, the relief being effected without the slightest injury to the stomach-or other organs. Mix some and give it a trial. It cer- tainly comes highly recommended. Tt is the prescription of an eminent au- thority, whose entire reputation, it is said, was established by it. Tone up and be at your best. Wind up the year as well as you be- gan. Don’t spend the day so it will bring regret. For goodness sake pay up your sub- scription.’ Forget your friendly grasp. Appear different, if it’s nothing more than to smile. Be grateful for what you have, and hopeful for what you may reasonably expect. If you enjoy a good, fat dinner, don’t forget the many that will surround a scanty table. Don’t down so much plum pudding and stuffing that you'll terrorize your stomach and have the gout for a month. In your home gatherings, let some one read the “Events of the Year,” as reflected in this paper, then subscribe for it, recommend it to your neighbors and send it to your friends. =We wish our readers a merry time, in fact, of all others, the most sublime; be good, be true, and be ye cheery, and may your Christmas be right merry. It is generally admitted that the recent bankers’ panic, was entirely unneces- sary, and was caused by the baseless fear of depositors withdrawing their money from the banks, thus taking it out of circulation. While there are a great many timid people in this country, with money, who fear to trust the banks, which are, however, ten times safer than their own custodian- ship, they would not fear for a moment to trust that money to a bank owned and operated by the Government itself. We should establish Postal Savings banks, into which people could deposit their money and draw a small interest, and thereby keep all of our money in circulation. As before stated, the re- cent panic was caused by hoarding, and it will be seen that by establishing these postal saving banks, we could | keep all of our money in circulation, thus making it ilpossible for a money panic to occur in times of prosperity | like the present, and in fact there would not be any diminution of pros- | perity. Suppose you, Mr. Voter, write | grudges and give a to your Senator and Congressman, and | urge them to pass a law establishing | postal saving banks. The country | needs them, and the President wishes | to see such a law enacted. lee Jou~ SHARP WILLIAMS has advised | Discovery, the great medicine that | the Democratic minority that it will be | necessary to “work together like a foot- | ball team.” And goodness knows they average Democrat enjoys nothing bet- ter than a chance to kick. Pos itively. not one weak heart in a hundred is, in i$ self, actually diseased. It is almost always a hidden tiny little nerve that really is all at fault, This obscure nerve—the Cardiac, or Heart Nerve =simply needs, and must have, more power, more stability, more controlling, more governing strength. Without that the Heart must continue to fail, and the stomach and kidneys also have these same controlling’ nerves. This clearly explains why, as a medicine, Dr. Bhoop's Restorative has in the past done so much for weak and ailing Hearts. Dr. Shoop first sought the cause of all this painful, palpitating, suffocats ing heart distress. Dr. Shoop's Restorative—this popular prescription—is alone directed to these weak and wasting nerve centers. It builds; it strengthens; it offers real, genuine heart help.
