Deer Hunt.—A party of Hunters, headed by cominnnder in chief" left our town a few mornings since, and shortly after noon, returned with a fine buck as the reward of their ehase, Af ter a short race with the dogs, it took to the water, swam the piver, apd while on the premises of D. I) Hewitt, about two miles below this borough, receiv ed front him a slight wound, swam the river again, and baited, when several shots were tired at it trom this side, the distance being too great none took ef fect. Mr. George Osterhout, with one or two others crossed the river, and gave the fatal shot. A gener ous distribution was made of the moat, in which the printer was not forgotten. Now that the season for hunting deer has arrived and a correct precedent we will hereafter expoct an occasional .nibble of wild meat. Drowned.—ln the evening of the sth inst. in .the river opposite Lock No. 15 just above the Wya lusing falls. Two young Ladies, Misses Ellen Heath and Ohpelia l'hiney. Two went into the water, while Miss Heath remained to row the boat- After a time they all together upet the boat, turning it bottom up. In In their fright they cried for help, and succeeded in getting hold of the boat, (when had they remained, might have been saved.) Mr. Butler, from the- JLocfc, and Mr Morrow swam in to their assistance, Mr. Butler first got to the boat and began swimming to the shore with altogether. Upon tho arrival of Mr- Morrow, the two that were drowned left tho boat an 1 sprang up in Morrow, which immediately sunk him and thein. He rose twice anl finally dove away and left them, being mostly drowned himself, and got to the ,'horc with the boat and one Lady. The other two were not found until about 8 o'clock ,pext moruiug, when their bodies rose and floated down the river.
