The costly drought of the sum mer just passed brings up the question "Shall eastern farm ers irrigate?" We say yes, if you have a piece of land that is level enough so that it will no "wash." At the present time there are hundereds of farms in Texas that are irrigated by wa ter pumped from deep wells Springs and small flowing streams are the exception in Texas, and irrigation in that State is rather expensive-at first thought-but nothing is too expensive if pays large returns. A few year ago a few men tried it there, and it paid so well that, in many parts of that state, a farm with out a private irrigation plant "is the exception. Here in Fulton countv. we have springs and streams, and plenty of roof sur face from which to catch thou sands of barrels of fine water be stored in cement reservoirs We feel very sure that if some one would set the example, oth ers would soon follow, and, many places, five acres of irriga ted land would produce more than twenty acres yield without irri gation. In addition, the cost of ploughing, seeding, cultivating and cutting the other fifteen acres would be eliminated. Ma ny farmers already have the gas oline encrine. or the windmill, to Sale fcglstcr.
