A piece of rock from a blast knocked the whistle off of the engine at the State Highway quarry at the west end of town last week, and let the steam es cape and the engine was out of commission for a few days. We acknowledge the receipt of a new road map of Fulton county by F. M. Taylor. . The map is drawn to a scale of half inch to the mile, and shows all township line3, post offices, and public roads, and is a good guide for any one contemplating a trip in to parts of the county where he may not be familiar with the 'roads. A Philadelphia man forgot to re move his fifty which was secreted in the hat band; but an honest gar bage man found it and returned it to him. Do not take any chan ces, as not all garbage men are honest There were lots of bears in town Monday, and all of them must have been eating too many huckelberries and got seeds in their teeth, for William, of Green Hill, and Frank and his daugh ter Marjory, of Fort Littleton, were in town early that morning to see the dentist. Frank looked the sorest on the outside, or else he had a five-cent plug of tobac co in his left cheek. J. K. Johnston, whose place of business front3 on the Lincoln way, is brightening up the exter ior of the building with a coat of white paint. By another sum mer, tourists will say "What a nice, clean place is McConnells burg." Liberal applications of paint to the buildings on a busi ness street looks far nicer than when the ladies er we mean, isn't this a nice day? Postmaster and Mrs. S. B. Woollett, and Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Kirk spent from Friday until Sunday in Mt. Union. More than thirty years ago, the Woollets came to this place from Mt. Un ion, and for twenty years, neith er of them have been in that place. Wishing to see the im provement they had heard so much about, they concluded to take a short vacation and visit old scenes. Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle's new detective story, in which Sherlock Holmes solves a most baffling mystery, starts in the Sunday Press of September 20th.
