Wells township occupies the unique position of having lots of road money in the treasury, but lacks men to work on the roads. Gee, but work must be plenty over there! But then they say the sun makes the roads in Wells. We try to mow the alfalfa from our chins twice a week, at least; and every time we mow we feel rcc-ret that the chins (hills) out in Licking Creek township are not clothed with an equally per sistent growth of alfalfa of the trifoliate variety. A low rate excursion will be run over the Cumberland Valley railroad of June 11th. to State College, in order that farmers may visit that institution to learn more of what is being done there in the way of experimenting on better farming. A through train will run to the College. From one of our exchanges we learn that a month-old Holstein bull calf was purchased in the northern part of the State for $3,390; after keeping it for four weeks the owner sold it at auc tion in Syracuse two weeks ago for $11,300, a clear gain of $5, 900, or more than double what he paid for it. That profit of $5, 900 is more than many persons make in a life time. "The Philadelphia Record" rides uo hobbies and plays no favorites. It gives all the news for just what it is worth. We feel that with this explanation much annoyance both to us and our subscribers will be avoided. Moths and Lice. It is claimed that the strong scent of red cedar will keep moth from clothes, and lice from the roosts of poultry. This being the case, it would seem that the free use oi red cedar, shavings, or sawdust, would be greatly pre ferred to that of the moth bal which leaves such a s'ekening o- dor on woolens and furs. For poultry roosts, it is recom mended that the roost poles be made of cedar, and that as much of this wood as possible be used in hen houses at places where lice harbor. An ample supply of ce dar sawdust could be had by hack ing a piece of the wood with saw until the desired amount is procured, to be sprinkled freely among woolens and furs when they are packed away for the summer months.
