Prof. Barton made his annual rounds in this end of tho county the past week, and a fine corps of teachers was installed by the School Board of Bethel township. Three of tne number, however, are young and inexperienced in the art of teaching, but bright and active young people, 'jager to The question of vaccinatum is now becoming verv prominent bofore the people, in fact we are square up to the proposition in ch a shape lhat the teacher ls the one who suffers by the ne- gleet of the parent or guardian refusing to have the children un der their care vaccinated, when the law demands it shall be done. Much exception has been taken in different localities, and bitter ness engendered over this matter of vaccination, but when the mat ter has been brought to the at tention of Courts ' of Justice, the majesty of the law has been sus tained. Calmly consider that the poor school teacher, who is em ployed and paid by money from the state, is the one who will suf fer in case the law is strLt'y en forced. Long years ago people vaccin ated one another from virus ob tained from one arm to another, and no serious results happened. Now, great caution is exercised, and the vaccine matter is careful ly put up and sealed, that no danger exists of inocculatiug oth er diseases, and will make people immune from that dread disease, small pox, notwithstanding argu ment to the contrary. Fnder the patent law eU'rynp plicant for a uateut must subtn.t a working model of his mvention. Naturally, the Patent Ollioe has an almost endless supply of mod els. When it is stated that there are 1,S10 models of patent mouse traps in the Patent Ollice, some idea cau be formed of the huge array of stuff that has accumulat ed iu the course of years. Some time ago, when the now post of fice building was finished in Wash ington, the eld Postollice Depart ment Building on 7th street was turned over almost entirely to the Patent Office as a storehouse for its hundreds of thousands of models, but iu a few years this building was crowded, and a large building on G. street, formerly used as the city postoflicc, was next tilled up. Naturally, more thau half of the models are rubbish, which the Patent Ollico will find it diffi cult even to give away. The mod els of the groat inventions, such asthetirst sowing machine, or the first threshing nmchiue or the first telegraph instrument, and similar inventions that mark eras in the country's development will, of course, be retained by the government. Many other mod es will probably be acquired by colleges and technical schools. Curiosity seekers will buy some, and (very many itn dels will he carried ou:. to tin; euinp some where and b!iri:i'(i. The Responsibility of .Motorists. A decision, behoved to be the ti rst of its kind, has just beeu render ed by a judge at Yonkors, N. Y. An afitoinohile occupied by G, Y. Bryant and his chaffeur, while racing with another, collided with a carriage and severely injuied a woman occupant. The court sen tenced the cliall'eur to two months imprisonment, and lias just sen tenced the owner Bryant, to a similar term iu the penitentiary. The judgo reasoned that if the owner present or absent, coin mauds, incites, encourages, or perhaps permits an employe to violate the law in the manage ment of the owner's property he is subject to the penalties and may be proceeded against as a priucipal. In rendering lnsdecision J udge Boall, who when he tirst weut on one oench was inclined to be leni ent with violators of the speed laws, said lie was moved by sev eral conditions, and prejudice against automobiles was not one of thorn. "The automobile," he said, uis hereto stay." But it must be under such proper legis lative regulations, duty enforced by the courts, as will ensure the safets of the persons and proper ly of others.
