W. right, grocer, Elmer avenue, Don't get a sore face and then There will be a cottage prayers meeting at Robert Lendrum’s, 115 Second street, Milltown, tomorrow Project Is Being Seriously Agi- tated Among the Local Busi- ness Men From preseat indications there is a strong probability of a fair association being organized in Sayre, and if the present plans which are said to be well under way do not miscarry, in another year the people of this section of Bradford may have the opportun- ity of witnessing a first-class exhi- an association of this character, as it is believed that it will be a pay- ing investment and also be the means of extensively advertising Sayre abroad. Recently there has been considerable talk concerning the matter and various plans have been suggested. The plan which is looked upon as being the most feasible, and which has the endorse- ment of several local business men, is to organiz: a stock compaay, with sufficient capital to erect buildings and provide other neces- sary equipment, The organization of the company and procurisg the capital the promoters say will be the easiest part of the scheme. A suitable site will not be as easily secured. It has been suggested, however, that land suitable for the purpose could be secured on the plains west of Sayre which could be reached by trolley. This feat- ure of the project will be looked into immediately and if a site can be secured with little difficulty, the organization of the company will follow. The promoters insist that a first class fair can be conducted here each year. Infact it is asserted preparations can be made for one which will equal if not excel any held in the state. Sayre has the railroad facilities, and other natural resources which would attract thousands here at fair time. The dates could be arranged in such a manner as to get horsemen to come here with but little difficulty. Time was when this valley was looked upon with favor by men who owned trotting stock, and it is as- serted that if a first-class track was made a part of the fair grounds it would be no trouble whatever to get them to renew their interest here. The progress of the scheme will be watched with interest. POLICE OFFICER ASSAULTED Charles Garabrino, the Italian police officer of Elmira, and well known to the police officials of this valley as a shrewd, honest officer, was viciously assaulted by a fellow countryman at Elmira yesterday, Garabrino served a subpeona on an Italian in a saloon, when an Italian named Liechens, who is said to reside at Corning, without warning sprang at Gara- brino, and in the mixup which fol- lowed, fastened his teeth on the officer’s middle finger on the right hand, tearing all the flesh from the bone. He also tore a large por- tion of the flesh from the officer's hand. Liechens has been placed under arrest, charged with may hem. The crime is a serious one and in New York state is punish able by 10 to 15 years in prison. SION RETURNS Simon Glaser has been to North Fair Haven during the week on a fishing trip. Simon returned last night and this morning told a Record representative that he caught 12 large fish, When he was questioned further, however, Simon admitted that the majority of the fish were hooked by a man whom he had employed to operate the boat. Attorney C. C. Yocum, who accompanied Simon, did not return home as yet. He caught a large 15-pounder yesterday and was 30 elated with his success that it is doubtful if he returns until cold weather drives him in. ' Stephen Fisher is taking in the Towanda fair today. Between now and election day every voter who is opposed to the machine and machine methods should get out and work, Work is a blessing in disguise to most people. The young folks and many older ones cannot see it in that way, but the day will come when they will rejoice because of their being compelled to work when young Frederick Ehrig, a track walker in the employ of the Lehigh, was instantly killed at White Haven yesterday, He was struck by a freight train whose approach he did not notice. He was sixty years old and resided at White Haven. Del Higgins and William Hoag of the Sayre quoit club went down to Athens yesterday afternoon and pitched a match game with Eu- gene Winters and Pat Shannon for $10a side. The Sayre represen. tatives brought the money home with them. The big fair at Towanda is ats tracting large crowds each day. The exhibit is the best in years, the show of livestock being partic- ularly fine. Today there is a big crowd on the grounds and the prospects for a still larger crowd tomorrow are excellent. ————] etter HEARST NOMINATED Hearst was nominated by the ing at 1:55 o'clock. phy. the Tammany chieftain, was in absolute control of the conven- tion, He delivered the nomination to Hearst with scarcely an impedi- ment in the way, Murphy, how- ever, will not be able to elect his man $0 easily. for American LaFrance En- gine Company at Elmira son of this place, signed a contract pany of Elmira, for the erection of nine buildings, the largest of which 135 feet long, and Go feet wide. high and will be constructed of concrete. Accord- ing to estimates he has made it will require about 1,200 carloads of material, and the labor of a large number of men, Mr. Johnson will commence work on the contract at once and expects to have the work well un- der way before winter begins. Sayre people generally will be more than pleased that Mr. John- son has s=cured the contract. For a long time he has been known as one of the best of the larger con- tractors in this section. His work has given excellent satisfaction and when he has completed a job it will stand the test of criticism, “THE CHOIR SINGER” Much interest has been aroused in New York and other large east- ern citics by the recent production of “The Choir Singer," a refined comedy drama containing a num. ber of novel features, This latest of the season's successes will fur- nish the attraction at the Loomis tomorrow night. An unusual in- novation in plays of this class is iatroduced in “The Choir Singer,” the new departure being the ren- dering of many attractive songs and other musical numbers by members of the company, thus in- suring an evening's entertainment by extraordinary variety, Scenic. ally, the play is most elaborately mounted, and the company repre- senting it carefully selected. “THE MAN ON THE BOX” Manager Watrous of the Loomis is glad to announce that the greats est comedy success of the season in NewYork will be seen at the opera house next Wednesday evening. This attraction is Mr. Henry E Dixey in “The Man on the Box,” in which he was seen for 123 nights at the Madison Square theatre and 81 at the Lyric, New York, a total of 204 nights. His play is a dram- atization of Harold MacGrath’s famous novel, and its manager, Walter N. Lawrence, promises that every member of Mr. Dixey's sup- porting company will be exactly the same as that seen at the New York engagement. COSTLY WRECK The Lehigh sustained a $10,000 day night, A target was set against a fast freight in order to allow a local shifter to pass.
