She is naturally of a timid nature but suffers from temporary aberation. It was nccessary- for Mr. Cook to call Officer O'Brien, who placed her in the lockup for the night. Wiaters, the Republican nominee, and those from the vicins ity of Owego, who desire the league to endorse the nomination of Fred J. Davis, the Democratic candidate. Simon Ziusmer of Waverly is the county chairman of the Independence League, and had called a meeting to be held at Waverly last night, but J. A, Edgerton, who is the representa- tive of Mr. Hearst in this part of the state caused W. N. Sweeney, the secretary of the league to call a meeting to be held at Owego last night Mr. Ziusmer states that this was done without his authority or consent. Yesterday afternoon the Waverly delegates were ine formed that the meeting will be held at Owego, and a new organs ization eflected. So last night the committeemen from this part ofthe county went to Owego and gather ed in the hall and at 8 o'clock the meeting was called to order by Mr. Ziusmer. After a few minutes session the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair. Before those present had left the hall, the others who had not been present came in, and when ins formed that the meeting had been adjourned they objected that it had been called before the appointed time. The chairman then arose and began to tell them what he thought of them in no uncertain language. All attempts to silence him were of no avail and an officer was called in, it is said by W. N. Sweeney and Mr. Ziusmer was then led from the hall. The Owego faction and their fol- lowers then started to organize, with the intention of placing a full ticket in the field, but it was argued that inasmuch as Mr, Ziusmer had beea regularly elected chairman that any action that they might take without his being in the chair would be illegal, and so they ads journed without making any nomi- nations. The hall at 44 Lake street, where the meeting was held, was packed to the doors, and Owego was stirred up to an extent that is cx- tremely rare for that quiet burg.
