A 500 pound weight is adjusted to the side of the scaffold in such a man- ner that when it is released the victim shoots into the air a dis tance of nearly eight feet. Years ago this was a popular method used by hangmean, but recently it has fallen into disuse. The gallows on which Brewster will hang stands in the open behind a barn at Coud ersport and is the object of much | curiosity, thousands of people vis. iting it daily. : NENORIAL RESOLUTIONS At a regular meeting of Division 380, B.of LE, held Feb. 25, 1906, ‘the First Assistant Engineer was instructed to draft resolutions of respect and condoledce and submit the following Whereas, The all wise Master has called our worthy brother John C Curry, and old and respected member of Division 350, to the re- ward of a higher division: and Whereas, For a long term ol years he has been a most faithful member of cur Brotherhood, and possessing all of the virtues consti tuling a good citiz'n, and a kind and loving father; therefore, be it Resolved, Though we shill hear | that loved voice no more, yct his mem ry will long be cherished in the minds and hearts of the mem bers of our division and as a last- ing memorial, a page in our min- utes be set apart for copying these resolutions and a copy be sent to each of our daily papers and Elmira Telegram for publication and our charter be draped in mourning for a period of thirty days.
