He was the son of Henry I. Fritcher, who in early times was a prominent citzen of Athens, Deceased was born here |and was one of the bright young men at the time the writer came to reside in Athens. His sister, |Ann Eliza, was one of the devout | christian spirits that went out as a | missionary with Mr. and Mrs. C. C | Tracy to Marsovan, Turkey, where | she spent her life. Silas J. Fritcher calisted in the civil war with the first company, that of Capt. Daniel Bradley and served in Co. F, 6th Pa. Res. until wounded in the battle of South Mountain, when he was discharged. Hc re-enlisted a cavalry regiment and served until the victory of Ap- ! pomattox. The family moved to Syracuse where they have resided ever since, and where their parents died sev- eral years ago.
