OMPANY PROTESTS CONCRETE CONTRACT Members of the American Con- Was Made Under a Guarantee and Should Have Been Ac cepted. Waverly — With regard to the letung of the contract for the curb ing of Waverly street by the Vil lage lisard of Trustees at a recent me. tiny of that honorable body, a member of the Concrete Stone Company in conversation with the Valley Record reporter last even ing had the following to say “One of the Village Trustees went to the Amencan Concrete Stone Company and requested the company to make a bid on the curbing of Waverly street the dis tance of 1720 lineal feet, which they did, and their bid was presented to the Board. Notwithstanding the fact that said company’s bid was lower by 121; cents per foot than that of another bidder, S. C. Smith, the coatract was awarded the latter, the former's bid for the work being entirely ignored. There was only one of the Trustees, S K Osborne, voting in the interest of the people The representatives of the Con- crete Stone Company also stated that “for some unknown reason certain members of the Village Board are down on the members of the Concrete Stone Company.” If this is a fact it would seem like residents of the willage to suffer through personal grievances of the Village Trustees. Had the American Concrete Stone Company been awarded the contract, best skilled workmen would have been employed to do the work, the best materials would have been ‘used, and the work done on the ground, and not at their fictory as many supposed. The contract as awarded was at 63 cents per lineal foot, while the Concrete Stone Company would have done a guaranteed job, and would also have given a bond for five years and completed th job at 52%; cents per Lineal fot Prior to the last meeting of the stated to members of the American Concrete Stoae Company that the evening, but that a committee would be appointed with power to act. The contract was, however, awarded at the last meeting of the Board. M. O'Brien will leave in the 133d regiment Penasylvania Vol- Record regularly.
