Tlie I>ailv Review. Towanda, Pa., Monday, Nov. 28, 1881. EDITOIIS . S. W. ALVORD. NOBLE N.ALVORD ii l3ailtj USericte" on 25 cm pry month. Vyy it! Several of the participants in the late "reform within the party" meeting in Philadelphia are already mentioned in connection with the nominations to lie made by the State Convention next sea son. The movement which was inaugurate d at tnc Continental Conference to advance popular rule and free representation in the Republican party litis been well re ceived throughout the State. The right of every Republican to seek a full expres sion tit the primaries cannot lie challeng ed. The integrity of a course which aims to make party action reflect the popular will cannot be impeached. The niovt is treated with a hearty approval in many quarters, and a respect in till which will promote good feeling. The Franklin Repository, edited by Rep resentative Pomeroy, suggests the fol lowing ticket for next year: For Govern or, Gen. James A. Beaver; Lieutenant- Governor, lion. J. B. Niles, of Tioga; Judge of Supreme Court, Senator John Stewart; Secretary of Internal Affairs, John M. Greer. Another suggestion is; Senator AY. T. Davics for Lieutenant- Governor, and George Lear, for Supreme Judge. James Britt, a longshoreman, was employed on the evening of Jan.18.1871), on one of the vssels of the Mexican steam ship company at New York. While he was assisting another man to carry a pair of skids from one part of the vessel to another, lie fell down a hatchway in the darkness and received injuries which caus ed his death on the following day. His window, Anastasia Britt, as executrix, brought a suit in the Supreme Court, before Judge Van Vorst, to recover dam ages for the loss of her husband. The jury rendered a verdict for $4,000 on Tt - esday. A Trenton paper says: "Among the Cabinet rumors that'may be regarded as dcllnitcly and finally settled, is the nomi nation of ex-Senator Frelinghuyscn as Secretary of State. The position has been tendered to Mr. Freliughuysen by President Arthur and he has signified his acceptance, and Is now putting his pro fessional business in shape in readiness for the assumption of the duties. Mr. Frelinghuyscn's appointment will be a very strong and satisfactory one. It pla ces the administration on a high plane, free from all factional entangling allianc es, and in the alignment of the most honorable traditions of American states manship." The Postmaster General will state in his forthcoming annual report, that many petitions have been received from the Pa cific and Eastern States for a more speedy and frequent service between New York and San Francisco; that the service should be improved in accordance with the importance of the business transacted between the two sections, and that the time has been reduced one day by the ac tion of the Pennsylvania railroad in es tablishing the limited express. Negotia tions are pending, which have in view a still further reduction of the time. At present only New York city and Pennsyl vania profit by the reduction of one day between New York and San Francisco. The matter will be brought to tiie atten tion of Mr. Viinderbilt, who has always offered the department superior facility for the*transmission of its mails, and it is thought that lie will place the Eastern and Northern States, whose mail facili ties arc controlled by him, on ail equal footing with Pennsylvania and New York city. & <M.
