The Daily Review. Towanda, Pa., Monday, Sept. 12, 1881. EDITORS S. W. ALVORD. NOBLE N. ALVORD. "Daily Revirir" only 25 cent* per month. Try it, The following is the Platform adopted by the Republican State Couvention iu Harrisburg last week: Resolved, Fisrt—That the Republican party of Pennsylvania is in the most hear ty accord with tne administration of President Garfield, and while uniting in the prayers of all good people for his speedy recovery, pledges continued fealty and the most active support in the prompt and courageous correction of ail govern mental abuses. As Republicans we are in favor of any proper and well-consider ed reform, either iu the government of. the nation, the State, municipality or county; and we court suggestions to any or all these ends, and only ask that in their advocacy well-established safe guards shall not be hastily supplanted by •experiments. The administration oi President Garfield lias set the right ex ample in this direction, and while firmly adhering to the principles and better practices of the great party which called it into cxistance, It yet insists upon faith fulness and honesty in every branch of the public service. The bullet of an as sassin should not interrupt this work. It should be pursued while its author lives and beyond ids life, if, through increas ing misfortune, it should lie taken away. Second—The Republican party lias ev er been progressive and reformatory, and while realizing that nothing in govern ment is wholly right, we desire it to be always brave enough to seek every ave nue ofapproach to the right, to the end that all our people may enjoy the ever increasing blessings ofgood government. Third—That to President James A. Garfield, this tender and loving, this struggling and suffering, this pure and brave man, now become the beloved of this people and the admired of all people, we tender for ourselves and our constit uents assurances of deep and heartfelt sympathy; and keenly appreciating the value of such a life to his country we ex press the prayerful hope that he may soon be restored to the discharge of the impor tant duties for which he is remarkably qualified, and from which by a peculiar infamous crime and an undeserved assault rpon whom for a conscientious exercise of proper executive power, he has been temporarily withdrawn. Fourth —That in State as in nation, the Republican party is committed to the course of economical and honest adminis tration. We demand the use of all neces sary means and the enforcement of all laws intended to prevent fraud and waste and we require a close and watchful guar dianship over all of the multifarious in terests committed to the care of our or ganization. IV h—That in any revision of our tar iff legislation which may be madn, care shall be taken to discriminate in favor of our industries and thereby to promote the causes wlreh are rapidly making America a controlling power in as it already is an established leader in political thought. Sixth —That the administration of Gov ernor lloyt me;Us our warmest approval. We regard with satisfaction the results of a purely Republican administration un der bis leadership, in which all depart ments have been faithfully conducted, the credit of the Slate raised to the highest point, aud its finances placed upon a proper basis without itic:easing the bur dens of the people. General Uaily, the Republican nominee for Stale Treasurer, was born in Browns ville, Fave eco 'i.v in icr.(s. He was educated in Madison Colleje, Uniontown, in which place he entered business as a jeweller. At the begiuuing of the war 1 he raised a company and entered the ser vice as a captain. He was wounded at - the battle of Gaines Mills in June, 18G2 He was under Grant until after the battle . of Spottsylvania and remained in active . seryice in the army until 18G4.
