Look out for bargains when he re turns. Col. OVERTON and wife, Senator DAVIES, wife, daughter, Miss WINNIE, and sons GUY and WILL, left for Asbury Park yesterday afternoon. Mrs. WAYNE DEFORREST, of this place, and Mrs. li. F. GOODMAN of Sayre, are guests of President PACKER and wife at the Thous and Islands. Mrs. KING and son WILLIE are home again from their vacation. We are glad to see the boy looking so much better and on our streets again after so long a siege of sick ness. Dr. HAMILTON'S examination of ARCIIIE CORSER'S arm proved highly gratifying to him and his parents, and the result was very complimentary to the attending surgeons. TOMLINSON, quite an eminent Universalist preacher, well known in this county, died suddenly of inflammation of the kidneys, at Mendon, 111., the other day. He was a brother of the late JOHN TOMLINSON of Armenia township. Mrs. PATTERSON, mother of Mrs. HENRY STULEN and Mrs. JAS. 11. CODDING, died at the residence of the latter, at half-past eleven TOWANDA, PA., FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 18S1. last night. Funeral services will be held at Mr. CODLING'S house this afternoon at five o'clock. The remains will be interred at Muncy, Pa. The News Condensed. The Prohibitionists have nominated James M. Nelson for State Treasurer. The democrats of Virginia yesterday nominated John W. Daniel for Governoa. An Elmira woman stripped, went to bed, fell asleep and then fell out of a second story window without breaking a bone. The Rev. Francis Brown, professor of Greek in the Union Theological Seminary has been elevated to a similar position at Dartmouth. It is proposed at Newport to contrbute ■ a statue of Bishop Berkeley to the raoiiu ! meiit about to be erected in Cloyne Ca thedral, Ireland. The coal mines undei Plymouth are gradually settling. Nearly thirty build ings are threatened with distinction. 1 The inhabitants are much alarmed. The cause is attributed to improper mining and robbing coal pillars. The Commissioner of Patents,to whom Mr. Edison appealed, lias finally affirmed the decision given by the Examiner of Interferences and Examiner-in-Chief in ; favor of Mr. Maxim, one of the electri cians of the United States Lighting Com pany, in the case against Mr. Edison in volving the Platinum Lamp. He has taken nourishmeni well, and shown little fatigue after his dressing and changes of position. The wound is doing well both in appearance, character and amount of the discharge. At 12:60 p. 111. his pulse was 96, temperature 98.4, respiration 18. The afternoon rise of temperature came on late, and was mod erate 111 degree.
