Monday's Elmira Free Press says: "A young man by the name of CAMPBELL, of Litchfield, Pa., hired a horse and buggy from FITZGERALD A PARKS, liverymen of Athens, yesterday, and took his girl out riding. The horse it would seem, was allowed to go his own gait, as the young mail's arms and hands were otherwise engaged than in managing the reins. The horse naturally struck a walk and without any guidance to control him, rail the buggy into the gutter. Frightened at this, he ran away and got beyond all control. r l'he buggy was tipped over and the horse's legs so badly cut and otherwise injured that lie is about useless. The buggy was complete ly demolished, but the chap and liis girl were unhurt. It is said that even after the acci dent he wanted to drive on further. A SUGGESTION TO BUSY HOUSE WIVES, PIC NICKERS AND OTHERS.— The labor of pr< paring a dinner these hot days is often dreaded, and pie nickers, excursionists, &c., do not always know where to provide them selves with suitable provisions. We have learned something in this respecf which may be oI advantage to our readers, and we give the information free, although it looks as though the firm who are to profit by the sales ought to pay for the advertisement. STE VENS Si LONG have a large assortment of canned and potted meats, such as boneless turkey, pressed chicken, ham, etc., put up in small packages, and sold very cheap. The meats are all of the best quality, prepared with great skill and would do credit to the test cooks. OPERETTA AT TROY.— The rendering of the beautiful operetta, " Bed Riding llood'3 Rescue," by Prof.Williams' music class was a highly creditable affair. The costumes were tasty, the parts well supported and the inusic excellent. Che general excellence of the class, ior the short time it has been under drill, fully supports Prof. Williams' reputa tion as an able musician. We understand that he intends organizing a class at Towan da, and we hope he will receive the cordial support which merit as a gentleman and skilled musician demand. TROJANUS.
