Mr. and Mrs. .JOHN MCINTOSH, who have been visiting friends at their former home in Canada, have returned to their home in this place. EDWARD DERRICK and F. O. CHURCHILL, of the Auditor General's office, Ilarrisburg, arrived in town yesterday, to testify in the railroad suit. The many friends of Rev. WM. MCGLATH ERY. late rector of Christ Church, th'.s place, will be pained to learn that lie has lately been afflicted in the death of his aged, revered mother. LAWRENCE HALLERAN, or •' LARRY," the name by which he is more familiary known, lias purchased the interest of his partner in the boot and shoe shop in the rear of the RE VIEW office, and is now sole proprietor of the establishment. With the exception of four years m the army and a short time spent on the western frontier, LARRY has been steadi ly working at his trade for more than thirty years, and as a skillful workman has 110 su perior in the country. The" children and grandchildren of Mrs. Susan Jones celebrated her ninetieth birth, day at Lansingburgh on Tuesday. Among those present were her daughters, Mrs. Peter Roberts, Mrs. J. A. Record, Mrs. Mary .J. File, and her sons Varnum 8., Martin V_ B. and Silas L. Jones and their families. The reunion was a verv pleasent occasion for all concerned. Mrs. Susan Jones is the widow of Varnum .Jones, who was a soldier in the war of 1812. Notwithstanding her advanced age, she retains her health and mental facul ties to a surprising degree.— New York Star. It is an an " open secret," and we may be excused for mentioning it, that a former fair Towandian is to-day to become a bride. The young lady is Miss FANNY NOBLE. The marriage is to be celebrated at the residence of the young lady's brother-in-law, T. K. BRAUND, in this place, at 2 o'clock p. m. The name of the fortunate gouMeman who lias won the heart and hand of the estimable and accomplished young lady is JOHN DAUER. The body of little LLOYD ASPINWALL, who was drowned in Hastings, Minn., the 3d of June, was recovered nine days after the sad accident, some miles down the river from the point where he fell in. Doctors JOHNSON and NEWTON are both of the opinion that the scapula is fractured, and that it will be some time be fore ihe fracture is healed. It was a most fortunate escape from instant death JARED IIEARL Esq. of Standing Stone, has shown us a summons issued by the late Judge GEORGE SCOTT, while acting as Justice of tho Peace inJWysox township Luzerne county, in September 1811, a year before Bradford County was organized. The form of the blank is about the same as the one used now, is printed on very inferior paper, but looks as clean and neat after seventy years as it did when first issued. The writ was served by WM. DININCER, constable, and the return is made in a clear, legible hand. Mr. DININ GER IS well remembered by the older people of Towanda, as the school teacher of half a century and more ago. He was an ed ucated German, very near-sighted and ex ceedingly passionate. Many amusing anec dotes are still related of him by his former pupils. Senator Seseious has been indicted by Grand Jury at Albany, on a charge of bribery. It is rumored that Gen. Rusk, of Wis consin, will be appointed Commissioner of Rairoads in place of French. The saloon keepers of New York are organizing a company for the purpose of manufacturing their own beer. One of the counsel in the matter of the Fortune Bay award says that he has re ceived ten per cent of the entire award. The amount of five per cent coupons received at the Treasury in Washington for continuance now aggregates .$82,000,- 000. There are now twenty-five tons of sil ver bullion in the Philadelphia mint. The gold and silver on hand is valued at $31,- 000,000. Prof. Klein, of Ilartford, Ky , claims that he discovered the comet now at tracting attention last September. He says that it is the comet of 1783. It is understood that the new Minister to Peru will be instructed to do what he can to rehabilitate the government of Peru, without the direct interference of this country to accomplish it. After July Ist it is intimated that there will be a thorough organization of the clerical force of the Post Office Depart ment at Wrshington, and many veterans will be compelled to give way to young er men. Two boats were racing on ihe river near Cincinnati, 0., yesterday, when the boiler of one of them exploded. Both boats were filled with passengers. The engineer and three other emplyes were killed.
