The I>ailv Re-view. Towanda, Pa., Saturday, April 16, 1881. BDITOBB . 8. W. ALVOUD. NOBLE N. ALVORD. £• " Daily Review" only 25 eenti per month. fry it. lihiim mmmm !■ i—■ rniuTi There is a great deal of non-political pressure being brought to bear in Wash ington on the Senate, to get it to go into executive session and take up the nomi nations. A strange and terrible disease has broken "but among the Chinamen employ ed on the Canada and Pacific railway in British Columbia. A Chinaman sat down apparently perfectly well to eat his din ner. His feet began to swell, the swell ing extended up his legs and reaching the vital parts in ten minutes, causing the chest to expand to most unnatural proportions. lie tumbled down dead in less than fifteen minutes from the time the disease attacked his feet. More than a hundred have been carried oil' in the same way. The whites are alarmed and it some instances the foremen have lied. Mr. Kainor, colored, who served as lieutenant-governor of S. C., and subse quently represented the state in congress, is now working.in the streets as a com mon laborer. Saturday while busy hand ling his pick an incident occurred which must have vividly reminded him of the vicisitudes of fortune. A garbage cart backed up to where the ex-lieutenant governor was working and dumped a load of dirt on the street. Among the rubbish was a copy of a congressional record containing a speuch made by him self on the civil rights bill while a mem ber of congress. Mr. Kainor is not ashamed to labor, although at one time wealthy. Ben Hill's attack 011 Mahone has brought out some ugly things in his own frail history. Among them is the follow ing, found floating in the newspapers: Ben Hill, the liar and coward, is charged with causing the death of William L. Vancy. During a heated debate, some years ago, Ilill called Yancy a liar, and the latter sprang torward to strike Hill, who caught Yancy and threw him vio lently over a desk. Hill was much the larger and stronger man, and Yancy the more active. In the fall his spine was injured and he lay unconscious on the ftqor, with blood oozing from his lips. He was taken away, and the members tried to keep the matter secret, and did prevent it from being known for six months. Yancy never recovered; he dropped from day to day, became hope less, listless and vacant, and passed quietly and calmly away.
